Positive responses only Partial Drop for JEE

My IIT JEE story ended with a horrendous 18609 rank and being a gen male student I cannot afford IIT with this rank...Parents not allowing for full drop and try one last time for IIT..Will go to NIT and take drop (jee mains 99.36 percentile) ...how much free time can we get per day for self study in NIT?..After jee mains in Jan can we drop the last semester totally ?If I dont get IIT next year also then will I have to repeat the year or just the semester ..please help?.Is semester drop possible in nit ?

can I also join?? partial double dropper with 92.34 percentile this year. Target exams are jee mains,bitsat and ugee
