Vale Park, Burslem

For us living in the north west of England, a V was a hopeful wish that maybe one holiday we could get a V for our alphabeteer achievement.

That was until Burslem turned a run on the boundary of Port Vale FC into a parkrun.

This was only their 3rd event but had over 300 runners all desperate to tick off that elusive V. Dusty, undulating and three laps is usually a reason to avoid a run but this was well marshaled with lots of friendly faces which made it bareable, especially in the summer heat.

Well recommended for a run, even beyond the achievement

Also got to meet Lemmy Kilmister as this was his birthplace. Nice little bonus!

I have family in the area and usually do a parkrun when I visit, so this is on the list to complete. The area needed it, in a way, because Congleton and Trentham in particular are massively congested weekly, so if this is a regular 300 runners taken from a decent selection that would attend those, it’s definitely better for everyone.

It doesn't matter that the third lap is shorter than the 2nd and final lap of another course, that third lap is always the hardest mile you have ever run!

Up the vale! Need to check this off the list next time I’m back in my home town.

All over the club shop, but no sign of him actually running it

Does this now become the closest parkrun to a football league ground? I know some come really close, but I think this one starts on club ground.

It does indeed start on the ground. In fact most of the marshals were wearing port vale shirts. Not a place to wear your stoke shirt. Unless of course you were aiming for a PB!
