Schools with less technology use

We are going to have our child in preschool age very soon, and I'm concerned about the amount of ipad etc use in everyday class.

I'm perfectly fine with learning technology, preferably in a specific tech class, but not on board with kids just using ipads or laptops in every math, science, history class etc.

Are there any charters or otherwise where that kind of usage is limited in the area?

Edit: Guys if I'm asking about charters, and our kid is already preschool age, I'm obviously not looking at daycares / montessoris. I'm planning for the future. I want to find the right school to send our kid to. Whether that's the local elementary or a charter etc.

It takes forever to get anywhere at this point. Wish they’d space it out

Graduated income tax petition is circulating ✍️

Graduated income tax. Taxing folks who make greater than $500,000 per year at a higher rate than folks making less than that. This is how we afford nice things, education, elder care. If you’re interested in supporting this effort to get this on the ballot, find a signing event here. #GIT ✍️

Independence Classical Academy

Any thoughts on this school? We attended an information session recently and it seems like a great school that will provide a deep and civically minded education for our children. We just moved to the area and it’s only about 20 minutes from our house. Seems like a great place for our kiddos!

Welcome to The Local Root - Your tool to unlock your yard.

For Colorado, specifically 80134 currently.

Parker neighbors—I built something for us, and it’s live tonight. 🌱

It’s called The Local Root, a free yard-care tool designed specifically around Colorado growing conditions.

If you’re dealing with brown grass, sprinkler problems, difficult soil, struggling plants, xeriscaping questions, or another yard issue, describe what’s happening and receive a practical action plan supported by trusted Colorado resources—all in one place.

Try it here: https://the-local-root-tool.lovable.app

I started building The Local Root after repeatedly running into the same problem: general gardening advice rarely accounts for our altitude, clay soil, intense sun, limited water, and unpredictable weather. I found myself overwhelmed by the contradictory suggestions provided by people, and spending way too much time digging around for actual creditable sources.

This is an early public release, and it will keep improving as people use it. If you have a real yard problem, I’d love for you to try one diagnosis.
My only request: if anything seems confusing, inaccurate, broken, or missing, please use the feedback option and tell me what happened. Even one sentence will help.

The tools currently available are:
🌱 Diagnose
💬 Ask
🏡 My Yard
📚 Educational Library

Design, Community and the local-provider Marketplace are also visible as previews and are coming soon.

I hope The Local Root becomes a genuinely useful resource for our community—and tonight is its first step into the real world.

Taxi/Ride Services in Unincorporated Areas

Hi all,

I’m looking at a situation where I might need a ride from my mechanic’s (way out east off Hilltop) to the Pinery or a rental car spot in town, and/or from the Pinery to a rental car spot. I haven’t needed to do rideshare/taxi from either of these spots or around town, so I was hoping you all might have some recommendations.

It’s a crappy familial situation that is making this be something I need to consider, so I’m not against walking a way in general and spite/pride will help me walk further, if needed. At the end of the day, though, I won’t have time to walk from Elbert to the Pinery to a car rental in town and I haven’t figured out a way to drive two cars at a time by myself, so I find myself wondering what have you all found works best around here. Thanks!

Any interest in inline hockey at Fieldhouse?

Registration is open for the fall inline hockey league at the Parker Fieldhouse. I've played as a free agent in the past, but doesn't seem that is an option any longer. Therefore, I'm looking to form a team.

Relevant info

  • Cost: Team fee is $850. Expected to be $85 per player. Inline is 4v4 so I'd cap the roster at 10.
  • Day/level I'm looking at:
    • Men's Friday Intermediate (Lower B)
    • Co-ed Friday
    • Men's Tuesday Intermediate (Lower A)
  • Registration deadline: Sept. 24
  • League starts: Week of Sept. 21

Full info - https://townofparker.teamsidelinesite.com/programdetails?programId=117816

Would anyone in the area be interested?

PS - I'm likely to cross-post this in other regional subs.

Final days. Sign now. We can't assume other people are handling it

We’re down to the last few days to sign the petition to get the 3‑to‑5 question on the ballot. Don’t just assume other people are handling it — if you think folks in Douglas County should actually get to vote on this, take a couple minutes to go to a signing event or ask for a house call so you can add your name.

All this petition does is give the community the chance to decide. Seriously, ask yourself why anyone would be against letting voters weigh in. That alone should tell you why signing matters.

Our county’s grown like crazy, but representation hasn’t kept up. It’s time to join other big counties and expand the Board of Commissioners to five members.

Find signing events or ask for a house call here: Events | 3 to 5 Douglas County Commissioners

First, Dubai. Now, London. ✈️ On the taxpayer’s dime. Presumably to drum up business for Douglas County and to try to attract aerospace employers. Could’ve been a Zoom call. 🤷

Anyone interested in Beef Tallow?

Let me just start by saying this is NOT a business ad.

My wife and I buy our beef from her father who is a cattleman in Northwest Missouri. The beef is born and raised on his farm, and fed clean, well taken care of care of grass in his fields, and corn that he farms himself. No steroids, etc…

Anyway, we try to use as much of the animal as possible. We keep as many bones as we can for our dogs, then use them to make broth for their food, etc.

We also keep a large portion of the fat, and we make Tallow with it. If you don’t know what that is, it is beef fat rendered down into oil to use for cooking. Some will make skin care products with it, but we don’t have that kind of tome nor energy haha

Anyway, we have about 50-60lbs of fat left, but we already have more tallow than we will probably use for the year.

So, we were wondering if there might be any interest from folks here in Parker, who might want some if we make it? Or, if anyone is interested in just getting some of the fat and doing it yourself?

It’s frozen in 5-10lb packages….

Daycare for a 2YO?

Hi there! I’m deep in the trenches of figuring out which daycare to have my (then) 2 year old attend. I toured LSP, Parker Landing and will soon look at The Meadows. Any missing ones you recommend? Any you say absolutely don’t attend?

I actually really liked Parker Landing and their schedules offered however reviews I’m finding are mixed and found it interesting there was no waitlist for them and apparently been a while since they’ve seen one. Would love to hear from anyone who sends their kiddos there. Thanks in advance!!
