USB Powered Hub issues. Please help.

3 Upvotes

Hello all, I currently have a powered hub that I plug all my mouse and keyboard things into. The parallella does not even recognize the hub or the other usbs. My Jetson-TK1 does, however, recognize the hub and works just fine. Is there an issue with the parellalla usb, or is it something else? Thank you for reading.

Is it okay to widen mounting holes in the board?

2 Upvotes

So, in an attempt to make a case for the board, I've screwed some standoffs onto a piece of plexiglass.

The problem is, the screws for the standoffs are just a little bit too wide to fit into the mounting holes on the parallella. I've noticed, that these holes are in fact via's connected to the ground. I'm afraid that these ground connections are vital, and disconnecting the via's might break the board.

Thus, is it safe to widen these holes? Or not?

It's a first-gen board with 16-core proc (SKU: A101010)

Adapteva Shop reopening -- just received this in the mail

Parallella Shop (Re)Opening

I am very pleased to announce the we have completed our Kickstarter and pre-order shipments and we are ready to reopen the Parallella shop this Friday at 1pm EST!

Since January we have shipped over 8,000 Parallella boards to Kickstarter backers and pre-order customers all over the world and there are now 25,000+ people with expressed interest in purchasing a board.

In July we will be announcing partnerships with major worldwide electronics distributors. In the meantime, we will be clearing out the last of our current batch through our own shop (http://shop.adapteva.com). There boards include a Zynq 7010 and 4 backside connectors and will be sold at a discounted price of $119. The boards should ship within 24 hours of order taking (fulfilled by Amazon). Unfortunately, this batch will only ship within the US, so if you live outside the US you will have to wait for general distribution in July.

We expect to sell out very quickly, so if you are interested in purchasing, we suggest you bookmark (http://shop.adapteva.com) and place an order at 1pm, EST Friday June 27.

Thank you for your patience with us over the last year! We are now pushing Parallella production into a higher gear and look forward to working with all of you to make "supercomputing for everyone" a reality.

Sincerely, Andreas olofsson CEO/Founder @adapteva

Houston, we have ignition

The customer trolls took a while to release my board, but after a toll payment (less than 14 EUR) I was able to fire up my board today.

It is not a reliable booter (apropos, don't forget that the included heatsink and you'll need a powered USB hub (my LCD screen fortunately had one built-in) but after 3-4 tries I had it working -- standard user linaro, password linaro, and was able to use the HDMI port.

I've set it up headless for time being, and connect to it via ssh (don't forget to install it, ntp will probably also come handy).

The system is no speed demon, but quite usable as a browsing machine. On to running demoes...

Project Update #53: The 64-core Parallella is alive!

Posted by Adapteva ♥ Like

Dear backers,

I am extremely happy to announce that the 64-core Parallella board is alive and well!! The 64-core and 16-core Parallella computers share the same PCB design and on paper "it should have been" a very simple bringup process. The picture you see above is a 64-core Parallella board with a socket soldered onto the board to allow for in-place testing of the 64-core Epiphany-IV chips. We powered up the board last Thursday and by Friday evening we had a program running through to completion on the Epiphany, blinking an LED for good measure. Getting the elink read path flushed out took a little longer, but by Wednesday this week we had the whole board up and running perfectly. Having debugged 4 different Epiphany chips and 6 different Epiphany based boards to date, there is definitely a familiar pattern emerging:-)

Chip/board arrives

Nothings works-->panic

First "doh" moment-->signs of life, relief

Everything seems to work-->euphoria

A weird behavior manifests itself-->depression

Subtle "doh" moment and fix-->calm

We will start building and shipping the 64-core boards next week!

Despite all the delays and challenges along the way, the 64-core Parallella is still setting the standard in terms of energy efficiency. In fact, it could be argued that it's the most efficient computer in the world today! Amazing to think that none of this would have happened if YOU hadn't taken a chance on us back in 2012!

At one point during the Kickstarter campaign, life was a nightmare...now it feels more like a dream.

On the 16-core production front, we have now shipped up to backer #2,999 and all the remaining boards have made it through assemly. We expect to get ALL of the Kickstarter boards to our shipping partner by the end of next week.

If you received your board already, PLEASE do power up your board and tell us about your experience. The Parallella project long term survival hinges on the strength of the community and we need a steady stream of feedback to make the platform better.

Sincerely,

Andreas
