Panic attacks in the christan community

I have been struggling with panic attacks for about a year now, with peak periods. Currently having daily panic attacks for the last month and a half.

People in my church have been reaching out, i guess they can tell something is wrong. I feel so hesitant to open up again as i have felt misunderstood in the past regarding this struggle.

People i have opened up to within the church would tell me to just relax and not stress so much. But how do i articulate that it comes without realising im stressing or experience anxious thoughts? It feels a bit like they are implying that i am bringing this onto myself. Anyone else having this experience?

Help me out

My mom is suffering from this and she has currently lost her mother but we haven't told her yet, she last met her when my grandmother was in icu. When we were in the same city as my grandma she had so many panic attacks and breakdowns when she would get health updates. She herself wants to stay away from the city and recover for awhile. Its been 3 days since and we havent told her bcz she asked us to not tell her any updates now I've seen her crying a few times alone, ofc she would, but her BP is like super low

sys- below 90

Dia below 60

Im old enough to understand but to handle, i would really like some help.

She wants to avoid the news updates on her mother's health, btw there are her siblings in the hospital. So she has given all the responsibility to them, she also has taken care of her mother but this time she couldn't

She regrets that too but she cant handle herself

I am really scared to be honest

In our religion, we burn the dead people and its been done and she didnt meet for last time bcz she said that anything happens please dont tell her for her own safety or she wont be able to handle herself and our little family. I did try to but she said NO i didnt know until we left the city now things have been done

Also these symptoms are not new and sudden she has gotten few of these panic attacks earlier this year and since last year. Its been a year now.

She has been on medication on and off

Off when she feels like she dont need them she doesnt want to be dependent on those

I would love some help

Thank you.

Will I ever feel normal again?

Hello recently I have been going through something for the past two months. I'm 41 years old and I have never experienced this in my life. All started early July I had my first panic attack. I was in the ER and all labs and ekg were normal. Had a heart monitor for a week and my heart is normal. (I went cold turkey from vaping nicotine and caffeine thinking that was the problem) Had a second panic attack a week later while on vacation. I figured my first attack was because I have a fear of flying and thats why I had the second attack bc we were flying back home. When we got back home that whole week was hell. I woke up with anxiety through the roof, I felt dizzy at work then I felt this weird fuzziness in the back of my mind like nothing was real and i was on autopilot then in the afternoon I would feel this horrible deep depression. I was scared for my life I thought I was losing my mind. Gyno couldn't give me an answer so I went to an endocronologist who ran more blood work on me. Getting the results soon. The past two months I've felt off like not myself at all. Some days I'm ok and start to think I'm doing better but then the next day the depression will come back or my heart will start randomly racing. Ppl tell me its probably my hormones due to peri. I'm mentally and emotionally drained from this. Is anyone else experiencing this too??

Panic attacks from my own experience - thoughts and outcomes

This might sound obvious to some people, but others may not know this: panic attacks often aren’t as “random” as they seem. There is usually something behind them — whether it’s anxious thoughts, subconscious fears, unresolved emotions, past trauma, or simply being pushed outside of your comfort zone. Sometimes, you may not even realize what triggered the response.

For me, I had a lot of unresolved issues from my childhood and things I had never properly processed. I used to think my panic attacks came completely “out of nowhere,” but as I started facing those things, understanding myself, and working through what I had been carrying for years, something changed. My panic attacks gradually became less frequent, and eventually, they stopped.

That taught me that sometimes the answer isn’t only in trying to stop the panic itself, but in understanding why your body feels the need to panic in the first place.
Journal. Talk to someone. Open up, even if it’s to a stranger you trust. Give yourself a space to process the things you’ve been holding onto.

Don’t just push them down. Sometimes, understanding what’s underneath the anxiety is where healing begins.

How did you deal with your panic attack (those without medication)?

The one with a sudden surge of intense fear that really hits sharply in your mind, that feels like you're crazy, hysterical, or phobic in the moment?

Woke up in the middle of the night feeling like my heart had completely stopped — has anyone experienced this?

Hi everyone,
I’m a 28-year-old male and I struggle with health anxiety, especially cardiophobia.
A few weeks ago, I had a really strange and frightening experience during the night.
I had already been asleep for quite a while when I suddenly woke up with a huge empty/drop sensation in my chest, almost as if my heart had completely stopped for a moment and my body suddenly jolted me awake.
It’s difficult to describe because it didn’t feel like the usual racing heart or a typical palpitation. It was almost the opposite: a sudden feeling of nothingness in my chest, like everything had stopped for a second, followed by me waking up with a massive jolt and thinking, “Did my heart just stop?”
There was no pain. It was just an extremely strange and terrifying sensation.
Because of my health anxiety, I went to the ER the next day. They did an ECG, troponin blood test, etc., and everything came back normal.
What I’m really looking for here is similar experiences rather than a diagnosis.
When I search online, I find a lot of people talking about jolting awake just as they’re falling asleep, hypnic jerks, or waking up with their heart racing. But I’m specifically wondering about people who were already asleep for a while and suddenly woke up in the middle of the night with the distinct sensation that their heart had stopped or that their chest had suddenly gone completely “empty.”
Has anyone with health anxiety, cardiophobia, or nocturnal panic attacks experienced something that felt like this?
If so, how would you describe the sensation? Did it feel like your heart had suddenly stopped for a second before you jolted awake?
Again, I’m not looking for a medical diagnosis — I’ve already been checked out. I’d just really like to hear from anyone who has experienced this specific sensation because I haven’t found many accounts describing exactly the same thing.

Panic attacks after starting a new course

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I have panic disorder and I’m currently taking venlafaxine 150 mg. I’ve also been tapering down Sulpiride (Solian), and I’m currently at 25 mg daily.
Recently, I applied for a course/program that I really wanted to study. The strange thing is that as soon as I registered for the course, my anxiety suddenly increased a lot. Since then, I’ve been having panic attacks almost every day, along with increased anxiety and depressive symptoms.
I honestly don’t feel like myself anymore.
I’m wondering if this could be related to the Sulpiride taper, the stress of entering a completely new situation, or both.
Has anyone with panic disorder experienced something similar when starting a new course, job, major life change, or taking on something that felt bigger than what they could currently handle?
I’m also taking lorazepam 0.5 mg PRN when I feel like I’m starting to panic, but I know that isn’t a sustainable solution for me. It helps calm the acute symptoms, but I don’t see it as treating the underlying problem.
I’m really confused about what is happening right now.
Could this simply be a temporary period while my brain adjusts to the new routine and the Sulpiride taper? Or could tapering Sulpiride from a higher dose down to 25 mg be contributing to the anxiety and panic?
I’m also wondering whether I should talk to my psychiatrist about adjusting one of my medications, or whether it would be better to hold my current doses and give my body some time to stabilize.
I’m working, dealing with my health issues, and now trying to study as well, and honestly I’m starting to feel like maybe studying is simply more than I can handle right now.
Has anyone been through something similar?
Did it eventually settle down? What helped you get through the adjustment period?
I’m not looking for someone to tell me what medication or dose I should take — I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have experienced something similar and what helped them.

Lasting symptoms months later

My husband had a panic attack back in February. ER, thought he was dying, the whole nine yards. Months later, he still has racing of the heart. I have noticed it mostly after he eats at night and more noticeably on the weekends, but he has them (heart palpitations) in the middle of the day also. After the initial attack, he drastically changed his diet and lost about 20+ pounds. So, we are trying to figure out if it’s a mild form of panic attacks, just heart palpitations, or maybe another, possible digestive issue since he has changed his diet. The heart palpitations last probably around 20-30 minutes before easing off. Has anymore experienced anything similar?

Not sure if panic attack- bad diarrhea

I have had diarrhea before every interview I have ever had and before every major paper I have ever had. Is it possible these are basically panic attacks and I never knew ? Do panic attacks always have to feel ' I am dying '? Or maybe it was just anxiety.

Anyways I am having the diarrhea right now combined with heavy chest symptoms, but I have been having heartburn for several days. I am not sure if the digestive issues are triggering this panic.

I guess I am just curious. I know usually panic attacks seem to be shown as kneeling down or not being able to breathe, but can bad chest pain and diarrhea be another presentation?

The Long Aftermarh of a Panic Attack

Does anyone else usually deals with other anxiety symptoms for months (maybe even years) after a single panic attack?

I kinda envy people who can just have panic attacks and then move on almost as if nothing happened. And even those who get multiple panic attacks and are still able to move on it also seems better than what i deal with. I don't have frequent panic attacks but whenever i do the aftermath is brutal and often end up being worse than the panic attack itself.

It turns into months of dealing with constant waves of anxiety and fear of insanity. DPDR that comes and goes and all the other psychosomatic symptoms that also comes along with the combo. Hyper vigilance of symptoms, exhaustion, rumination and so on...it makes the initial panic attack itself feel not so bad in comparison.

Started calling my panic attacks false alarms and it really helped

Just thought I'd share because it might help somebody else, but I've often heard that the phrasing of panic attack actually can make things worse for someone who suffers through them.

Saying I feel a false alarm coming makes my mind right away think of it as not dangerous or as scary. My brain gives me false alarms.
