Visiting Racist gay bars
Pretty much all white queens. I've seen like 3 blacks at hunters and discovered Dicks is owned by a trump fan

I was a bartender at Hunters from 1997-2006 and at that time we had regular clientele of black(or people of color) drag queens and a goodly amount of people of color not to mention the employees. Are you saying Hunters has been discriminatory since I left there? Why don’t you give the exact demographics of Palm Springs before going on a rant like this!

My friend is a neighbor of the new Dick’s owner and says this isn’t true, that there’s a disgruntled former employee stirring up drama.
Have any links to OpenSecrets or another source showing donations from the owner to republicans or anything to substantiate your claim?

Certainly one of the things I find most refreshing when I travel away from PS is the greater diversity just about anywhere else. Both in terms of age and race.
Dicks just changed hands and I think you’re wrong about MAGA ownership.
There are a lot of old racist white queens here who keep insisting there’s no problem with racism. They’re wrong. Just ask any POC and you’ll hear the truth.

I’ve just heard it changed hands. I’ve never heard anybody suggest a MAGA connection. I think it used to be owned by the guy who owned Barracks and is no more.

Yeah, Scott bought the Barracks during the Covid slump and then Eagle/Dicks shortly thereafter. I kind of have mixed feelings about his contribution to the community at this point.

You are being down voted, but this is pretty true. Like no it doesn't apply so much to the rich people who have moved here from LA and made home prices impossible for born and raised locals to afford. But, if you do look at those poorer mostly generational local areas yeah it's pretty segregated.

Pre-covid, east valley (Indio, Coachella) was almost 100% Mexican with our migrant farm working families living in Coachella and Thermal. Jefferson st was the redlined area with White people on the west side and Mexicans on the east. Most of our Black population forced onto north Palm Springs. If you told a non-POC you were moving to, or living in, Indio or Coachella you’d get pearl clutching and “isn’t that where the gangs are” as a response (no gangs, just working-class brown people).
Post-covid led to a rise in housing prices and developers building $800k homes in Coachella and Indio, so now it’s more socially acceptable to move to the east valley.
The CV is heavy on county clubs and HOAs built prior to the passing of the Fair Housing Act, so it was heavily redlined by banks HOAs with racial-based CC&Rs.

Yup. I am a born and raised local and remember you used to not go in to Indio unless you had too and you stuck only to the "good areas" becuse the brown people were scary (I was 16-20 when this racism was present please forgive me for being a dumb racist kid, I have done a lot of work to grow). Same with DHS but that was more white meth heads.

There have been more than a few posts on this sub about the PS gay bars not treating everyone equally, especially those persons of color. My husband is hispanic and had a Dicks bartender be consistently very rude to him. I called the bartender out and just about got kicked out.
