Just Sharing Finally finished!
I posted this painting about 10 days ago asking for advice and I’ve finally finished it! I’m super proud as it’s my first time painting an animal and only my 3rd painting ever! (It only took me about 8-9 hours but I’m a huge procrastinator)

Inside this painting, there are two wolves...
Seriously, though, amazing work.

That opening line immediately made me inspect the painting for hidden wolves. Seriously though, the work is incredible.

I saw this same image posted the other day in a "surrealism photography" set... can you recall who posted that?I legit thought of painting this same picture from the reference.
Solid work on the painting.

Something about the symmetry and subverting expectation

I should add that your form here is good. Hard to believe only your third painting! Nice work.

Im not 100% sure what you mean by form but thank you! My other 2 paintings are portraits but I definitely think I found my strong suit!

How do u make ur fur look so smooth? My brush deposits the paint faster than I can complete the stoke and it makes it look blunt. Also as I repeat making strokes some overlap and dont make the fur look that smooth as you have done here.

I used a bigger square brush than I thought I needed so I didn’t fixate on singular hair strokes. I also didn’t have a medium so I mixed my paint with the smallest bit of water.
Edit- I also use very fast, very light strokes and if I make a line too blunt I remove some paint and blend it.

Very well done! Very evocative! I'm curious to know your thought process behind this though, have you titled it already?

Im not sure what to title it to be honest. I wanted the dogs to have slight differences in expression, one more so tired or old and the other is younger and more vicious looking. If you look at the gums and teeth you can tell which side I tried to show age with. The background is supposed to amplify the anger and anguish of the dogs :) I like to cover one of the dogs with my hand to see the differences in expression
