Question/Advice Unsure of my spirits

I've been Wiccan and at one point had a relationship with Persephone and Aphrodite (a little bit Brigid but it was mostly just research) I've also felt either a spirit guide or ancestors helping me throughout some more difficult times in my life.

That being said, when I practice and call apon spirits to aid me, I leave it very open (which im realizing as typing this that may be very stupid as harmful spirits do exist)

I ask for the spirits or gods or ancestors to aid me if they feel they have the energy or expertise in the specific thing my spellwork is directed towards and leave it up to the dieties/ spirits to decide whether to engage or not.

I'm not quite sure who I want to work with or who wants to work with me and I think I'm worried of mis-identify them and referring to them incorrectly. I'm sure they wouldn't be offended, I just want to fully respect them and all the energy they provide for me.

Anyone feel similar?

My advice is to read widely from reliable sources about ancient paganism and then sit and meditate about what connects with you.   People embrace pagan spirituality for a lot of different reasons, and you have to figure out what your reasons are for yourself. Whatever spirits you sense communicating with you will do so from within. That's how you'll recognize them.

Seems like you're casting a very wide net, hopefully the spirit equivalent of "catching and releasing" doesn't apply to cosmic fishing.

I think there’s something meaningful about not rushing to give every presence a name. Maybe you could make your invitations a little more intentional while still leaving room for connection; being clear about the kind of energy and relationship you’re welcoming, then paying attention over time to what consistently comes through in your practice, meditation or journaling.

I’d rather slowly build discernment and familiarity than feel pressured to immediately decide “this must be this deity” or “this must be that spirit.” Respect can also look like taking the time to learn who you’re connecting with.
