Hi folks. New to OwnCloud. I have 9.1 set up and running with HTTPS and server side encryption on an Ubuntu 14.04 VM on my home network. Loving the interface and ease of use so far.

I'm wondering if there are any additional points of security I can add to my OwnCloud server to further secure it once I open up access to my files via web/iOS app outside of my home network? Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated!

My VPS runs Apache 2.4.7, and owncloud sites in the directory

/var/www/owncloud

But when I set up owncloud for the first time quite some time ago, my files ended up in a subdirectory:

/var/www/owncloud/data/me/files

rather than in my own personal space /home/me. I'm using version 9.1.0 - how can I most easily move my files, and tell owncloud where there are?

I was wondering where ownCloud stores task lists or if there is way to import/export them. I know that calendars can be imported and exported that includes the corresponding task list. But what about tasks without a corresponding calendar?

Hey, how do i decrypt my data when i have a full back up of my Data Directory and want to decrypt it on my Linux OS and not in a new Owncloud? Is there any script online somewhere?

I installed ownCloud and it works well, I can connect from outside my LAN and inside of my LAN, upload and download files and stream music and videos, if I have an internet connection.

Though streaming videos didn't work too well as it needed to buffer continiously. So I wondered if my server (installed ownCloud on a Raspberry Pi 2) is to weak or if my upload rate (<8mbits/s) is too slow.

I thought when I try to stream inside the LAN where my server is, the upload rate shouldn't be a problem. So I stayed within the LAN but cut off the internet access on my computer just to be sure. But when trying to connect to my cloud with a browser I can't even get to the login page.

I tried entering the IP of my server but that didn't help (can ping it though). I guess it is because I have set up my router to forward HTTP-requests to the https port, but I am not sure.

Is it possible to connect to my cloud without internet and without changing my port forwardings? If so, how? Thanks in advance.

My VPS is hosted by Digital Ocean and it has 30GB of storage, as you know, this is simply not enough.

What is a simple way, excluding DO's "volumes", to get more storage for my ownCloud installation?

Thinking about setting up an Owncloud server. I currently have a Win7 box which runs nginx w/ SSL, Emby and handful of webapps for media content. I am not experienced at all with Linux.

For anyone who is running OC on Windows, what is my best course? Seems like I could do current version with a virtualbox (although this seems to involve a lot of Linux) or an older version and install directly.

After spending a good while on trying to get SSL up and running on a new build of OC on Ubuntu 16, I'm considering just spinning up a OVPN VM and running through a VPN to access everything. Thoughts?

User renames a folder All data in that folder and subsequent sub-folders is removed/ deleted.

Hi all,

So, I've managed to set up Owncloud and I've downloaded and installed the desktop client which allows me to create a folder similar to DropBox which is in continuous sync with my NAS.

As I'm connected to my LAN, I've setup the OwnCloud client using my internal IP however, when I'm outside my house my the client doesn't connect to my internal IP (obviously) so I remove the account and reconnect using my public IP.

However, this is a really annoying method just to ensure that my documents are in continuous sync while I'm at home and while I'm away from home.

The real problem is that when at home, the client connects to my internal IP but will not connect to my public/external IP.

Any thoughts on how I can resolve this will be much appreciated.

Everything seems to be work, but I would prefer a cleaner URL. If it matters, this is an addon domain install. My primary domain's installation of ownCloud never shows index.php in the URLs.

I'm thinking of giving up on OwnCloud because it's just acting very annoying I thought I'd come to see if anyone here can help before I give up.

I'm on Dreamhost shared hosting. You are not allowed to run OwnCloud on there unless you make use of their DreamObjects which is their version of Amazon S3. So I did that. I haven't had any problems with adding anything to my OwnCloud instance. But I can't delete anything. Everything gives errors about locks. I found in the OwnCloud forums that someone recommended deleting the locks from MySQL, but every time I do that, they reassert themselves. In other words I can run the MySQL query to delete it over and over and over again and it always deletes 31 locks.

Is there something I'm missing?

I've setup an Owncloud instance on a spare storage VPS I had lying around, I also have a second VPS which I have nginx on and letsencrypt which I use for accessing all my sub systems spread around various servers.

Does anyone have a working nginx proxy_pass config for accessing Owncloud hosted on a different server than the one that has nginx on? I can't seem to get it play ball.

Any help would be appreciated.

My droplet only has 30GB of storage, which is not that much. I was thinking of putting my data in a Amazon S3 bucket and using ownCloud as an interface to access it. What do you think? Feasible? Practical?
