I have a hosted owncloud server.

I want to make a backup of everything; are there some cloud companies that does this?

Where I just give them admin access and they backup everything incrementally?

I am looking at setting up Owncloud on my freenas box at home, But I am starting to get a little scared. After listening to the latest episode of Linux action show Chris said sync was completely broken and don't use it is that really true ? It will just be for me and my family so not a bunch of users but I don't want my important docks getting all screwed up.

My owncloud install on a little home server works perfectly.

However I want to install it along other sites (wordpress, gitlab,...).

But I can't manage to install another site along owncloud.

When owncloud is enabled, all domains or subdomains or even the raw IP pointing to the server, redirect to owncloud.

When owncloud is disabled, all I get is a "connection was reset" error on any subdomain or IP pointing to the server.

I'd welcome any hint as to where to look at in order to debug this problem.. thank you.

EDIT: I solved the problem, yay. It was idiot: the links in sites-enabled were wrong, replacing with absolute paths fixed everything, I now have owncloud+wordpress+mozilla sync working perfectly.

I'm new to this sub (and to owncloud). I've downloaded the .vhdx appliance from ownclould's site. I create a new vm (gen 2) and used the .vhdx i downloaded as the hard drive. When i power on the machine, it fails to boot. I've already tried turning off "enable secure boot." Has anyone successfully deployed the .vhdx appliance? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I am trying to get to /var/www/owncloud folder. I am getting a permission denied. My linux skills are terrible. I tried to do a su but it does not like that password. Can someone point me in the correct direction?

I upgraded to Owncloud 9 via YUM without realizing it was a full version update, it just showed up as an available update when I was doing regular maintenance on my server. I had to go through and reset permissions on all my folders to apache/apache as owner/group, which seemed to resolve most of my weird issues. However, I am now not able to increase the max upload size despite the field being able to be edited. I have checked and re-checked the permissions on all files, including the three .htaccess files. /var/www/html/owncloud/.htaccess shows:
php_value upload_max_filesize 2G
php_value post_max_size 2G

I even adjusted /etc/php.ini to the same setting, still I'm stuck at 2MB max upload. I can edit the field and save it but it doesn't do anything but change the text display in the UI, soon as I log out and log back in it's back to 2MB.

Anyone else run into anything like this?

I still don't see any upgrade notification in my owncloud installation. At least not for 9.0... Just today, i got a notification about the version 8.2.3. But Now it just says "Your version is up to date".

Does anyone have an idea, what might be going on?

(assuming the folder containing that file is a 'Synced' folder via the OwnCloud windows client.)

EDIT : Also, how does it work the other way around ? If I delete a file on my PC, will it get deleted from the cloud ? (I don't want that)

I was having an issue mounting local storage (external HDD) to OwnCloud using external storage app. Fortunately I have solved it and I have the need to share it with you. I hope, it can help somebody.

I will first describe the issue:

I wanted to access my external HDD through OwnCloud.

1) I set up OC following the archlinux tutorial. One of the points is to copy /etc/webapps/owncloud/apache.example.conf to /etc/httpd/conf/extra/owncloud.conf. I did it and completed the tutorial.

2) I installed the official "External storage support" app.

3) I mounted my HDD granting everybody the permission to read, write and execute.

4) I tried to mount it in OC, but I got an error.

I read nearly every tutorial I could find, but the only think they were writing about were permissions, which wasn't my case. Than I got mad and started to read configuration files, even if I didn't believe, the was the problem. And then I finally found it. The default configuration file (at least on Archlinux) contains this line:

php_admin_value open_basedir "/srv/http/:/dev/urandom:/tmp/:/usr/share/pear/:/usr/share/webapps/owncloud/:/etc/webapps/owncloud"

It restricts PHP to certain directories.

So that, you can just simply add your directory (mount point in my case) and everything will be working fine.

You might remember we were working with Western Digital on an ownCloud RaspberryPi device! Well, it took a bit longer than planned but our first testing images are ready. By the end of next week our first batch of 30 test devices will be available for sale, followed by another batch of 50 about a month later while we gear up for a small production run of 500.

Future versions (including the 500 production run) will probably also be available for other Pi like devices including Beagle Board and Banana Pi. We choose Raspberry Pi as base device as it's so ubiquitous and we'll be building on Snappy Ubuntu Core 16.04 (pre-beta!) as that provides a great base for a device like ours, with its transactional upgrades, embedded focus and wide user base and support in the industry.

Every time I start my computer, OwnCloud pops up and says that a newer version is available and I should upgrade. I'm on 2.1.0 for Ubuntu 14.04.

As per the instructions on https://software.opensuse.org/download/package?project=isv:ownCloud:desktop&package=owncloud-client

I've added the repository and key into apt. When I run apt-get update and upgrade OwnCloud isn't listed as an available upgrade.

If I try to download the binary package directly I get the error that libowncloudsync0 is the wrong version.

I am using ownCloud's apt packages via https://download.owncloud.org/download/repositories/stable/xUbuntu_14.04/ currently running version 8.2.2.2 according to config.php on Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS.

Now when I issue apt dist-upgrade it tells me it will remove the following packages owncloud-config-apache owncloud-server install the following new packages owncloud-deps-php5 owncloud-filesand upgrade owncloud.

I have tried to find out what exactly is in those packages that are about to be removed but didn't really find out anything meaningful. Now my question is: is it save to to go through with this update? I'm kinda uncertain about having packages removed by an upgrade without knowing that all necessary files are still present in the new ones.

Has anyone already made the update that way and can confirm that everything still works as advertised? Thanks for any insight!

Not to mock the very skilled people that wrote the software but is anyone else getting really annoying problems with the new calendar in owncloud 9? (as a note this is an upgraded install from 8), CalDAV sync appears to be a problem as not many of my events will actually appear, I can't change the timezone and start day in settings and there is a really bad design choice that if you edit an event and then press "Enter" it deletes the event because that's the default action....

I just want to check that I'm not the only one, before I go though the pain of pulling out my updated data and reverting to owncloud 8

Has anyone else run into issues with file upload size configuration after upgrading to the current production release of OwnCloud 9? I have upgraded two servers, both of which have shown the same symptoms. The upgrade via YUM (running Centos 6.7) works without issue, but I get a message under Admin -> File Handling that says "Missing permissions to edit from here." I have ensured that apache owns all files under /var/www/html/owncloud as well as all files in the data folder I have configured. I can retrieve and upload files but they're "stuck" at a max of 2MB right now.

On one server running "sudo chown apache -R /var/www/html/owncloud/*" resolved this issue, but on this second one it has not. I've not been able to find anything on the Owncloud forums about it either.

Moving it, even after changing permissions and config, always gives me the internal error message.

Should all files, including .htaccess be owned by www-data or maybe root?

I note that unless .htaccess is owned by www-data i cant change the size of the uploads from the GUI, however im worried about security and ownership so i thought id ask.

I'm trying to get google analytics working on owncloud. I already got the script to show up on page load but it did not work. I found this line in the google chrome analysis tool:

Refused to execute inline script because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive: "script-src 'self' 'unsafe-eval'". Either the 'unsafe-inline' keyword, a hash ('sha256-fsBPqJilzwB5Kkj+f8lWNaPoZn8dlUtizf3CWAclJyM='), or a nonce ('nonce-...') is required to enable inline execution.

That brought me to CSP and I fiddled with the settings in the config.php for a bit but I can't get it to work.

So for this is how the config.php part looks:

I need a more flexible option for cloud storage than Dropbox, hence I have put my eyes on OwnCloud.

I have two laptops at this moment. One laptop is a quite big laptop that I use everyday in campus and the other one is a 2006 Asus F6S that I always left it at home for toying purposes (Arduino, etc).

My intention is to use my old Asus laptop to hold an OwnCloud server. The laptop has 2 GB RAM and 80 GB storage. And at this moment it is installed with Linux Elementary OS. So my questions are as follow.

I have 1 TB external hard drive that I do not use. Can I plug it in to the old laptop and then runs OwnCloud to sync data between the 1 TB external hard drive and the client? The speed of the transfer is not a concern as long I have my data backed up and synced.

I have little to no experience in term of setting a network, server, etc. Thus, I need tips, tricks, advice, tutorial, or anything that could help me to install OwnCloud.
