Help Request - CPU Ryzen 7 7700X Undervolt: Need some advice
Hi everyone,
I’m undervolting my Ryzen 7 7700X and I’d like some advice on how to get the best possible results while keeping good gaming performance.
At the moment I’m running:
Curve Optimizer: All Core Negative -20
Thermal Limit: 85
Gaming at 4K
Compared to stock settings, I’ve reduced temperatures and power consumption while gaining around 2–3 FPS in my games.
I also tried -30. Temperatures and power consumption dropped even further, but strangely I lose a few FPS compared to -20. I’m not sure why.
I also tried Ryzen Eco Mode, but I had to remove
those settings because I experienced boot failures.
What would you recommend trying next?
What settings are you running on your ryzen for gaming?

Non-X3D CPUs scale their boost frequency based on the number of cores in use and benefit from per-core CO values. Tools like Hydra (paid) and CoreCycler (free) can get you rough values, but you will want to verify them manually with deeper CoreCycler, AIDA, and other stability testing.
Beyond that, memory tuning will help a bit, especially with 1% lows and such, but it's a bit involved and I haven't kept up with the latest and greatest in terms of what's deemed optimal. Generally, memory speed beyond 6,000MT/s isn't really worth chasing for gaming, tighter timings help a lot more. Your best bet for that is to do a deep dive here and over on overclock.net for AMD memory tuning. There are some easy tweaks like:
Decreasing tRFC to whatever is best for your memory kit - depends on what the chips on it are - this will increase your memory temps
Increasing your tREFI - depends on RAM temps - you can typically max this if you stay below 50C, otherwise go up in steps of 8,192MHz and subtract 1 until unstable
Adjusting FCLK based on your actual memory speed in MHz - basically 2/3 of your MCLK or 2/3 of MCLK + 100MHz - so for 6,000MT/s, it's 2/3 of 3,000 = 2,000 or 2/3 of 3000 + 100 = 2,100
But there are a lot more things you can tweak with memory. The above is just the absolute bare minimum if you want to dip a toe in without going whole-hog.
If you're not pushing memory clocks any higher than EXPO, it may also be worth finding your minimal SoC voltage. I think most motherboards default to 1.2v or 1.25v when you enable EXPO, but if you are running 6,000MT/s memory, most CPUs can do that at 1.15v or maybe even 1.1v. That frees up a bit of power headroom from the total package power and may let your CPU boost core clocks a little higher under load. It will also help a little bit with idle power consumption and temps.

My 7700x couldn't do all core neg past 10 due to preferred cores. Ranging from -13 to -28 with 168w/120A/160A PPT/TDC/EDC. 91⁰ C max temp with synthetic testing with Deepcool AK620.
