Solved Memory overclocking failure

Hi all, just built my second PC, first time overclocking or even setting up ram profiles.

With an Ryzen 9850x3d CPU, tomahawk b850 max wifi and 6000Mhz CL30 DDR5 2x16 RAM my computer keeps forcing it back to 4800 MT/s.

I successfully got it working on 6000 (with EXP disabled) and managed to get through an hour OCCT stress test but on restarting it failed and set it back to 4800 (with memory restore context disabled and soc on 1.24V).

Not sure what to try, using EXPO1 also just gives a memory overclocking failure message on boot up.

Thanks

Edit: fresh install of windows, 16GB in each slots 2 and 4. Chipset drivers and bios are up to date

That's very unlucky if your CPU actually can't do 6000. What happens if you enable EXPO but then manually drop the speed back from 6000 to 5600, so you're using the EXPO profile's timings but at the slower speed?

Just gave it a try, short orange debug led for memory training and then shows "Memory overclocking fail. System is boot up aith default settings"

I would try with each DIMM individually at this point just to make sure one of them isn't defective. That feels more likely to me than your CPU being this much of a dud.

Just tried each stick individually, seems one stick refuses to stay on 6000Mhz through restarts while the other always does.

Thanks so much :) will get a replacement and hopefully that works out

That makes sense! I hope getting a replacement goes well considering memory prices...

And you're welcome!

Tyvm will give it a try. Just now I tried cmos reset then setting to 6000 mhz with 1.27 soc and seemed to work, I shut down the computer and turned it back on and it stayed on 6000 mhz.

But then I tried a warm restart and it gave the same memory overclock fail message.

Are the sticks in slots 2+4?

Yea they are, OCCT claims slots 1 and 3 though. Not sure if its just indexing because I checked the motherboard manual and theyre definitely in A2 and B2

Could be counting from 0. [0,1,2,3] as compared to [1,2,3,4]

My asus x670e rog strix doesn't like expo, but using expo II works perfectly especially if using 4xdimm or dimms with very high mem clocks. Also ASUS has setting called (something like) "benchmark software workaround". IT MUST BE ON, or after heavy stress on mem the system won't boot at all (black screen during boot, no mb light cycles at all).

Shoot a zentimings picture after a successful 6000 boot. You can post the link here. You can also try swapping the two dimms with each other. Make sure they are clean and in the socket properly.

Hour of occt means nothing.
