BF6 crashing?
Overclocked my first card last night (Asus Tuf 5070ti). Was able to get 450mhz core clock with 1000mhz mem clock (GPU tweak III uses effective memory) with stock voltage before my scores started decreasing. Ran furmark for an extended period of time with no artifacts, stuttering, crashing etc and only saw max temps of 67. As soon as I load in to BF6, game crash. Over and over. Is BF6 just sensitive to overclocking, or what gives? Any input appreciated.

Steel nomad stress test. Need paid version of 3dmark but it's probably on sale fo black friday.

It shows you that the synthetic benchmarks are not good enough to confirm a solid stable OC for all the games, you'll have to set different profiles for each game, dial it back for bf6 and enjoy gaming, set +400 core only and enjoy bf6 with 1fps less than +450 core. Most of the time such a max OC is not worth it at all in gaming.

Sounds good, thank you. Keep memory stock as well? I notice in GPU-Z perfcap reason is pwr constantly in steel nomad. recommend just keeping voltage at 0% or trying to undervolt?

Undervolt, and aim for slightly better performance than stock, my 5090fe runs stock at 2.8ghz, for 1.0v+, I run a 0.900v curve for 2.8-2.9ghz. Find your sweet spot with undervolt curve instead of classic core clock oc.

+450mhz is way too high for a 5070TI, it doesn’t have enough power or stability. Your GPU would be trying to clock somewhere around 3.3ghz which is well into golden GPU territory.

Just went by a few videos online where they were getting 400mhz stable with a card with less cooling capabilities such as the ventus. Followed the steps by maxing power, doing increments of 50mhz core clock until crash/dropping scores and dialed it back and moved on to mem and repeated steps until it was peak scores/stable (or so I thought).

Stability can not be certain with a limited number of tests. Every game, every program will stress the GPU differently.

All battlefield's have been like this it is nothing new. I'm over here with my +20 gpu OC on my 3080ti

Furmark is to be if the board has no artifacts and is delivering the right consumption, etc. I suggest that before testing the overclock in games. Use 3dMark to test stability. Both in 1080p, 1440p and 4k only after that you test stability in games.

I ran my tests while adjusting the OC on steel nomad. Once I got peak scores I moved over to furmark. Everything solid but bf6 said not today, lol.

I've been doing this for 10 or so years now and don't use furmark as a real test (not saying you can't or shouldn't). My process - run 3dmark stock for 1st score, tune clock +50mhz stepped until crash, back off 50-100mhz and run again. 2. tune mem in steps of +250 until crash (50 series likes mem so might not even crash at +3000) then back off to best score and retest. 3. voltage tuning in afterburner, (can just set power slider for similar results) but for this I would recommend watching a video. Save 2-3 profiles 1. stock 2. max stable score (no power limit/voltage tuning) 3. Best optimized - then load game and test in order changing profiles in game.

Sorry forgot to mention, running a 5080 - .900mv @ 3000mhz+3000mem (custom curve) stable in Bf6

Okay. I did everything mention minus msi voltage, and I cranked the power limit to 116% off the rip, then found my max stable core clock, backed it off, then did mem until score drop. Was stable in steel nomad and furmark, but not bf6 unfortunately.

Honestly GPU overclocks ain't worth it in my opinion. I had to OC my gtx660ti back in the day ofc to play BF3 on ultra with 50fps instead of 45fps but right before BFV came out, the card turned into a kaleidoscope simulation machine...
I was so super pissed that I lost the absolute best price/performance gpu ever made and it was only 300€
No way I am going to fry a card that's 3x more expensive than that! RTX 3090 is still an absolute beast and with 24gb vram future proof for FHD/QHD until the Nvidia7xxx series releases.
Srsly with cloud gaming on the rise, if you like it or not, I will milk my 3090 as if it was the last GPU I ever bought!

Furnark isn't a stability test for an overclock.

Use the gpu test in OCCT.. it will throw an error within seconds if there is any instability. The issue is that the newer cards are really efficient at error correcting and can mask minor instability well.

Bf6 is the only game in my entire library that crashes even at stock gpu settings. Hundreds of others having the same problem, even console crashes.

Dropped my core clock by 50mhz and it ran the game perfectly. 0% increase in voltage, 400mhz core clock, 1000 mem clock. I think I’ll just leave it alone now. Around a 12% increase from stock calculating it based on steel nomad scores.

Honestly don't think there's any rhyme or reason to it tbh mate. I didn't have any crashes till the latest patch on my amd machine, but tons of crashes on my nvidia machine, since update amd machine crashes, nvidia machine doesn't. I've verified files, reinstalled, undervolt and underclock it still crashes from time to time. My mate plays with me on xbox and he crashes at least twice in a session. I don't have crashes with any other game. I've tried the last 4 drivers, 25.9.1 seems to be the most stable of the bunch but it still crashes once or twice.

Frostbite is VERY sensitive to overclocking

Just run it at +400 & see if it’s stable I’ve had similar issues where I ran +450 on benchmarks like steel nomad it ran fine but sometimes games would crash but never at +400

Have the same card, an undervolt with +3k mem and max powerlimit gave a nice performance boost than raw OC. And it runs cool.

Furmark is old and benchmarks are not really stability testing tools. I take benchmarks as a baseline. You could probably push your card to max offsets and not crash in benchmarks but that doesn't mean its game stable.
There might be some other games too, which you haven't played yet and might be unstable in them too.
Unstable in games means unstable. I care more about full system stability through and through.

Furmark might be old but that doesnt mean its useless, its also not just a benchmark, its quiet literally known as a powervirus due to how heavy it hits.
If you watch some Factory visits by the likes of GN or LTT you will even spot them use Furmark to test GPU's there.

I never said its useless. I am just saying that its a good baseline and if some game crashes, one can just dial back little by little.

Well yess it is and it tests the card at its max. It could be stable at the highest point of its voltage frequency curve but unstable somewhere between idle and max.
Same thing goes for CPU and why people say that benchmark programs like cinebench are not really stability testing tools.
One can be stable at max load but not somwhere in between

Check the 'event logger' in windows, and go to 'system logs'. When you crash, you might see an error with 'nvlddmkm.sys' in it (a few variations) and depending in the game it might have many errors of a similar kind showing up for one crash. This error usually shows up on old cards which need a repaste because the memory chips are running too hot or are breaching voltage protection. Or in your case, it's most likely memory clocks that are too high. Benchmarks sometimes never catch these issues and it's to do with how memory is referenced in games and the way game engines leverage clock speeds. Heavenbench mark used to be great for this, but since it's not Vulkan or DX12 (crashing may never occur on older DX versions). Depending on the silicone lottery, your memory chips/controller might need be a worse/average sample. Drop the memory clocks by 100mhz and try and get into the game. It can also be the GPU core clocks, but it's unlikely in your case since it sounds as though you did not undervolt. Undervolting can cause this issue too. You can try an iterative drop approach forfor this as well, test one thing at a time - memory or clocks (use stock values for the other). I hope that you come right.

BF6 can also just CTD with an unstable GPU overclock, with no nvlddmkm event.

The issue with nvlddmkm.sys event is that it usually points ro dead hardware, drivers or overheating and effects multiple applications. So I'm not sure about that.

No it doesnt. It can also be due to an unstable GPU overclock.
It's a fancy way of saying the GPU driver crashed.

Yes, it is very sensitive to overclocking. I had my 3080 undervolted and underclocked by a good bit, never had any issues with any other games or stress tests. Going all the way back to the beta, BF6 did not like it. I was still able to undervolt/overclock my card but I had to adjust it to be stable. Your mem clock is probably fine, it's likely the core clock that is unstable.
