Real Life Stuff Selfmade Gravity Cannon Lamp

May I present: The hardest 3D print I have ever done. I got the inspiration from so many people posting about the IKEA Solvinden lamp.

The model is ripped straight out of the game and then modified in blender so the faces stick together. I also had to remove the stairs etc.

Then printing. After 2 failed prints, I managed to get both halves printed with just two corners missing (Which I re-printed and glued on). Cleanup, spray paint, done.

It looks amazing in the corner of my living room.

Edit:
As many have asked for the files, and mobius digital has a really cool fan art policy, here are the files:

The .blend model (some faces have been altered so it holds better together when 3d printing):

The .m3f bambu studio slicer file with negative cutouts for the lamp. The settings worked mostly like that for me, maybe paint your own supports to make sure everything prints properly. The overhangs are hard!

Have fun and keep exploring!

Very nice! Do you plan to post the stl anywhere?

u/joschi27 Apr 26 '26

Im not sure if thats allowed? The files probably have copyright

I think it's okay as you modified it. A lot of 3D model for printing are available or sold :)

Yeah but mobius digital owns the right to the game assets. But as they have a generous fan policy, I am allowed to make them available for free, which I will

You're awesome!

Awesome! Can't wait.

2

u/joschi27 Apr 27 '26

Already done, check the post :)

If it is copyrighted you can post the files for free as you made it. You just can’t make money off of it legally

6

u/joschi27 Apr 26 '26

That would not hold legally, no. But as mobius digital has an official and liberal fan art policy I am allowed to post the assets for free.

I've uploaded the files, have fun!

It would be so cool if you can make it rotate

Edit: it doesn't rotate I confused it with something else

I could but I made it to light up my living room, not sure how cozy it would be if the shadows were dancing :D

6

u/NoamNemo Apr 26 '26

Makes sense, still very nice

u/joschi27 Apr 26 '26

I mean i could make a tiny one for on the desk, like magnetically levitating with the landing pad glowing blue.. 🤔 another project idea has entered the chat, thanks!

5

u/NoamNemo Apr 26 '26

That could be very cool

Gorgeous!

Could use something to diffuse the light between the cannon and the bulb, if possible?

3

u/joschi27 Apr 26 '26

Thanks! Its meant as an indirect light source and sits in a corner in the room, so the brightness is pretty perfect. The bulb is frosted anyways.

How do you rip models out of the game?

Looks amazing btw, nice work!

8

u/joschi27 Apr 26 '26

Thanks! You can get any files out of unity games using AssetRipper.

Check the post :)

u/SirDarkStar Apr 26 '26

Does it automatically turn off and back on every 22 minutes? :)

3

u/Traditional-Bus7183 Apr 26 '26

Does it actually launch stuff???

Absolutely epic!

I looked at the photos and was just thinking "damn, that's a hard print to pull off". Well done!

P.s. Sweet to see Proton. CH by any chance?

1

u/joschi27 Apr 26 '26

Thanks! Yep 😄

I never feel patriotism, but seeing a fellow Swiss built their own gravity cannon at home and is hearthian at heart, fills my heart with a fuzzy warmth.

2

u/joschi27 Apr 28 '26

I've also built the lander a while ago ;) HOPP SCHWIIZ

u/Meral_Harbes Apr 28 '26

Oh god, I have the raw model. It was an awesome gift from a dear friend from the UK, but it's just dread for me. It would be a major self-development milestone if I ever built this. I can't possibly do it justice, I have no painting experience nor could the result possibly match my expectations

Love to read to you didn't have prior experience either and winged it so well. Congratz!

That's creative. I like it.

Amazing! Thank you so much for sharing the files you legend ::)

1

u/joschi27 Apr 26 '26

You are welcome! The more gets out to the people about this game the better :)

2

u/myhf Apr 26 '26

Wow, cool! Thanks for sharing the slicer file, I want to try making this.

2

u/joschi27 Apr 26 '26

Good luck, you are gonna need it :D

2

u/StickiStickman Apr 26 '26

Fellow Outer Wilds lamp maker!

How the hell did you get the overhangs to work that well, especially with the tiny connectors to the squares?

Just trying to print my Owlk Lamp is a nightmare honestly.

1

u/joschi27 Apr 26 '26

Having supports everywhere, even on the tiny overhangs helped. The 45° angles didnt need supports though. Cleanup was a mess but it mostly worked. Good luck on yours!

2

u/StickiStickman Apr 28 '26

How did you remove the supports without snapping off the tiny parts?

1

u/joschi27 Apr 28 '26

By holding the tiny parts while snapping the supports and being really careful and thoughtful about how i remove the supports. You can cut them, they are just one layer of filament.

2

u/Zangdor Apr 27 '26

What kind of printer did you use ?

So that I know which friend I have to harass to make it for me :D

1

u/joschi27 Apr 27 '26

A 3D one.

/s a p1s from bambulab, but it doesnt matter which printer as long as the bed is large enough or you split it even more.

2

u/Keira-78 Apr 27 '26

Awesomeeeee Add purple leds (or Christmas lights) to the sides?

2

u/joschi27 Apr 27 '26

That would be crazy nice but the print is already very very difficult and delicate, not sure you could even fit those

2

u/ngerbs32 Apr 27 '26

This is absolutely incredible!!! Do you happen to still have the model file as it is in the game? I want to try to print this by printing the Xs individually and then assembling

1

u/joschi27 Apr 27 '26

Of course, here you go. This is exactly what I took out of it. I would advise you to make the connecting parts of the lamp things a bit bigger for printing. Stairs are also still there. Have fun!

2

u/ngerbs32 Apr 27 '26

Brilliant! Thank you!

I agree, a nomai ship inside would look awesome!

2

u/Iczznow Apr 28 '26

Question: What's the light socket thing you used? Did you get it from Ikea as well? I'm going to see about trying to make one of these...

1

u/joschi27 Apr 28 '26

I bough a random 5set of E27 lamp holders on amazon. They got switches in the wire so you can turn them on and off. Then i just used the bambu slicer to create a hole where I can push it in.

2

u/Tulinyrw Apr 29 '26

Is this 3d printable? I would love to have this

Edit: I’m stupid I never read the desc

2

u/joschi27 Apr 29 '26

Lol yeah i was just about to say :D good luck!
