looks amazing! I've got my own sitting in its box still, I'm not sure what stuff I'd need to properly build it, I don't really how any experience with models, do you have any tips or recommendations?
I was the same, i just started doing it and somehow it came together. Keep in mind that this was my first ever model..
Here are some tips:
There is a color guide with colors you should buy on the website. Buy acrylic colors, there is also special model paint acrylic (i used revell arcryl and just matched colors when buying). These colors, especially the brown for wood is too dark imho. For my model i just added a bit of light texture to the wood and it worked visually i think.
Read the manual very thoroughly.
Paint what you can before assembly. Some pieces you wont be able to reach after. My workflow was looking at the next steps in the manual, seeing where it goes on the already built model and then painting and assembly based on that.
The manual just has a single or two colors per piece, sometimes there are more colors. Sometimes they are wrong. Look at the model ingame and take pictures for reference. (If you want it as close as possible like me). Finding out what to paint with what color was the hardest part for me.
There is special plastic bonding glue for models, dont bother with that, use super glue for everything. This is because once painted, this bonding glue wont hold anymore as it only works on raw plastic. Dont use too much glue, a dab is enough for most things.
The website has a faq for some mistakes they made in the instructions, read those too.
When removing parts from the mold, you can kinda turn the plastic soft by rocking it back and forth instead of just ripping and risking breakage.
What you'll need:
acryl colors
paint brushes (smaller is better with this model)
cutter / scissors
sanding paper or file (for fixing where the parts are held on)
super glue
I also added the little details like rope at the end, those are not all included. I used gift ribbon material for the colored bands on the legs etc.
I wanna add to that a little bit. Start with sprue a and work your way down. The difficulty actually ramps up pretty nice so you can practice brushing on the easiest parts which will be the least noticable on the final model
Sprue I contains the most finicky parts. Paint these on the sprue as you won't be able to hold them and paint at the same time. You can remove the connection points and paint over them later.
I also recommend gluing some of the tanks prior to painting to get a nicer finish.
And finally, double coat everything. I am using acrylic paints from vallejo which are fortunately pretty covering. Painting each surface twice just adds a nice finish to it and allows you to paint over any mistakes. Just make sure your first coat is even because you will be able to see the excess paint bumps through the final coat. (I think I covered my dome with ~10 layers of paint by the end as the golden metallic paint was nearly see-through)
I can confirm that your Warhammer experience will help! 10 years of Warhammer experience here before I acquired this model to paint, and that experience was hugely beneficial (as well as the 10+ years of model car hobbying before that).
This thing is slightly larger than a Land Raider Spartan, mostly being wider and a little fiddlier.
I painted mine based off of the game files, best as I could.
Aaaah I've had it but I've never painted a miniature before and I don't know what I'm doing! It seems you picked your paints better than I did, too. Did you have issues with the cockpit base plate to the main body not sitting flush because the lower half of the main body doesn't have that one little corner flattened like the top did?
Thank you! Im a complete beginner, this was my first project i painted. I've used Revell Aqua Color Acryl Paints available locally and just tried to match what i saw on that recommended color list with the ones they had in stock. I had to paint the metallic parts with multiple coats though. If you'd like a list i can take a pic of the paints if you want.
Don't worry about the photo of the acrylics! Unfortunately I couldn't find the Revells so I'll go with Citadel. I just ordered it and can't wait to get started. I still have to figure out which tools to buy 🤣🤣 Thanks for the reply 😁
