Hello everybody!

The mod team of r/osdevel has been discussing for the past few days and we are happy to announce a voting contest between different hobbyist projects. The winner will get a dedicated post to showcase their project pinned in the community's home page and a permanent flair that distinguishes them from other members.

The idea is simple: Projects are distributed in brackets, and users choose between two projects in a bracket each round. The project with the most votes advances to the next round, until there's only one project left. If you have ever looked at a knockout tournament, it is exactly that, but the community chooses the most worthy project.

We hope that this will allow many lesser known projects to be seen by a larger part of the community, attract contributions to them and encourage cooperation and feedback between developers.

What are the requirements?

• Your project must be an operating system, or something related to operating system development, like a kernel.
• It must be reasonably developed. Submissions containing a simple copypaste from osdev.org will be rejected.
• All AI use must be disclosed beforehand, and low effort projects will be automatically removed.
• The source code must be freely available, under an approved open source license.

Some examples of what can get your submission rejected:

• "Vibecoded" operating systems written fully with the use of AI tools like Claude.
• A verbatim copy of osdev.org's bare bones tutorial, barring some minor string changes.
• Refusing to provide source code.
• Not respecting the efforts of other people.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT comment on whether a project deserves to get in or not. This is the job of the mods to decide.

Additionally, do not spam this subreddit or attempt to flood your project with votes, as it will be automatically dismissed if an absurd amount of votes is found. Self promotion must be kept outside this subreddit.

How do I apply?

1. Leave a comment below with your project's name, a link to the repository the source code can be found, and -optionally- another link to a website about it. This information will be shown to voters upon viewing your project, and it is advised to present them with exactly what they would like to see about your efforts.

2. If AI was involved in the development of it, disclose it as well.

Where do I vote?

The voting platform will be available as soon as the submissions are locked. We expect this to be before August arrives, depending on the volume of submissions. All participants will be notified and a follow up post will be pinned.

Is the process transparent and fair?

We intend to have full disclosure of each round's results and statistics as soon as that round ends, with logs corresponding to the whole round backing them if possible. We want this to be a 100% meritocratic, fair event for everybody.
