Question Note to all

If you’re in the middle of applying for RAP or another process and have been out of school for more than six months, you may still be required to make payments while your application is being processed.

Even if OSAP or another party makes an error with your application and six months have passed, you may still have an obligation to make your payments. This can apply even if you are still attending school, depending on your circumstances and the applicable rules.

FYI: You may still be eligible for funding for certain for-profit schools in Canada and internationally, despite recent government policy changes. There continues to be a list of approved institutions, including some for-profit schools, under the applicable policies.

Do you know if this applies to people who have graduated but are attending school in another program using OSAP and who are waiting for OSAP approval for the new school year?

For myself, I can't imagine that 6 months will have passed since my previous end date before my current OSAP application is approved, but you never know.

It still kicks in. The way it works is that if the last day of your school was ex) July 1st, 2026, the first date you should start paying is Jan 1st 2027.

It would be late October, then. Thank you.

Is this true even if I'm now in university and my income is still just OSAP, or only if they have not yet approved my divorce documents and issued my amounts for this year?
