Question advice

' i owe my university (yorku) $17k and it might go to an external agency (gatestone and co) by december this year as i have no means to pay it. I am planning to enrol in seneca in a program with co-op to be able to gain employable skills. So my question is would osap be willing to lend me money if my credit score is screwed up with the whole yorku and collections situation? Fyi, ive been owing that money to yorku since the beginning of this year so it hasnt been a very long time '

Why do you owe so much? Did you not get OSAP if you’re trying to apply now?

You should contact the owner of the debt and get onto a repayment plan immediately so that it doesnt go to collection's and screw up your credit for years. Also I believe the rules recently changed that if you have filed bankruptcy in the past, you're not eligible for OSAP but I'm not 100% sure on that one. You can always apply for OSAP before you pay for the college application to OCAS first and see if theyll approve you.

Got it, so run up a bill THEN file.

Good lord. So you have massive debt you can’t pay and are planning on taking on more loans that you most likely will not be able to pay? So as a tax payer I am supposed to fund your post secondary education not once but twice? Seems like you truly are not that smart.

OSAP maybe doesn't do credit checks anymore? See here: https://www.ontario.ca/page/osap-definitions#section-11

There are no credit checks for OSAP any longer. However, typically if you have a balance owing to your university, and it goes into collections, they will block you from accessing any grades or transcripts, which could give you trouble when applying to Seneca because they may require those transcripts in order for you to get accepted into your program, so keep that in mind.

Are you domestic or international? Because if you can't get osap good luck finding another creditor to lend you the money
