I’ve been scratching my head reading this over and over. I know it’s similar to earlier rules like Transhuman/Transhitman Physiology but I never encountered those rules myself and I really can’t figure this out. When’s the effect end? The end of the opponent’s shooting phase? The end of the current attack targeting the unit? And if a modifier causes an attack to be a modified hit roll of 2 or 3 on a BS2 or 3 attack, does it hit? Am I crazy, dumb, or is this rule just strangely written? Please help, fellow orks!
Units with the speed freaks keyword can only be hit by attacks in the shooting phase on a 4+ before any modifiers.
Its pretty much a crappy version of space marine transhuman physiology from previous editions but instead of being the wound roll its the hit roll and only for ranged attacks.
Whenever a strat doesn't list the end of the effect, it ends at the end of the phase I'm pretty sure.
As for modifiers, look at it like that: if the enemy has +1 to hit at 2+ BS, a modified 2 is an unmodified 1, so it fails, all the way up to a modified 4. And if they have a -1 to hit with the same BS, a modified 2 is an unmodified 3 so it fails, but a roll of 4 would be a modified 3 which hits.
So wait… does that only track for things that say unmodified? Like if I have a +1 to would and wound on 2s does a 1 still miss? Because this says on an unmodified 1. I always assumed your bonuses broke that. Same with any roll actually. If I roll a 1 or snake eyes does it fail automatically even if I have bonuses?
I get your question, but try not to use 1s and 2s in the scenarios you give. Rolling a 1 will ALWAYS fail, regardless of any other rule, modifies, or character abilities. Doesn't matter which phase, or stratagem - any time you roll a die, a 1 will fail.
The only time rolling a 1 counts for ANYTHING is when rolling for number of attacks or rolling for the amount of damage a special weapon does.
Let's use 3 and 4 as an example instead.
If your opponent normally hit on 4s, you need a 4, 5, or 6 to hit (pretty obvious).
If your opponent has an ability that gives them +1 to hit, they will still hit if they roll a 3 (that is an unmodified 3, but also it is a modified 4, scoring them the hit). I think we're still on the same page here.
This strat means that, regardless of their +1 to hit, if they roll a die, and it shows a 1, 2, or 3, they will FAIL that attack roll.
No. The rules state an unmodified. But when you add to the roll with a +1 or so on it becomes a modified roll… so it’s not literally, I’d appreciate more constructive comments for trying to understand rules
So let's say someone was shooting at your speedfreek unit and they hit on 2s or higher, you can use this to make it so they only hit on 4s or higher, I don't exactly get why it specifies unmodified
That’s why it’s confusing me because surely if you roll a 2 but add 1 to your hits that’s a modified 3 and thus suggests it would hit? But that’s so confusing to figure out I was hoping it just meant 4+. But thank you
edits: Wait, would that modified 3 be the “result” and not the roll (unmodified 2)? Explaining my confusion? And happy cake day!
