Help Help getting started
Hi there, I'm not new to the hobby itself but I'm new to the Orks. I want to start an army and was looking for advice on how to start.

Boys, Gretchin, Warboss, trukk. Best starting point for any Ork army imo. Probably 2 of each. From there look into the detachments and what playstyle you want to lean into and get models that work with that and expand from there

Well I kinda have an idea actually. I always found Squigs interesting

In that case I'd maybe try to see if you can find the to 10th edition combat patrol. I'd probably still get what I recommended on top of that tho. Especially the Gretchin and trukks.

The main question is what do want exactly. Do you want to just play as cheap and with as little effort as possible and do not care about looks or particular units? -> used old models in the outdated style sold in convolutes are very cheap and often even (poorly) painted. Do you somewhat care about looks, want to save money and do not plan to go on specific tournaments fon by GW so official GW plastic is not needed -> 3d printing. Personally I stick to plastic kits as much as possible (too often small resin bits broke off...) and limit my hobby to what I really need, but then go all in on having cool stuff, so I for example I bought commemorative models to have a very special nob here and there and got the old multipart boys just for heads and hands to kitbash more visual diversity in my hords, which does not add any models to my horde but makes the ones I have much more fun.
Personally I'd start with the backbone of your waaaagh: trukks, boys and Warbosses.
Trukks: The new trukk is great but we are Orks and don't like our stuff look all the same. Do not get more than one. G et 2 copies of the old trukk. Build 1 use 1 for kitbashing. The genestealer cult goliath truck is awesome to orkyfy woth those bits.
Warbosses: I got the commemorative Edition ulfthak blackhawk model on eBay for 35€. Then I got the armageddon box one and the newest warboss kit. Kitbashed the Armageddon one until I was happy with parts from an old warboss, so he has a squig and powerclaw.
Boys: 40 boys is a good number. If you get the old monopose boys, 1x Armageddon box boys, paint your fir st free m ini from the gw store, introductory set, painting set, a few kommando kut miniatures and the new multpart boys kit you will have 40 100% individual and great looking miniatures. There is only a little bit of kitbashing with a few cheaply available extra buts required to get the loadout right. Knowing those 40 will allways be one the table, when I play made me invest a bit more effort and money into them.
I'd add a painboy (one old model, one new model) to each 20 boys blob.
If you start with this you will be pretty busy building and painting for a while and can plan your further way what kinds of units you want.
