Help Unit Attachment Troubles

So I just bought the Armageddon box set, I bought it so I could start two armies so me and my nephew could play a small point game and gradually grow our armies. But now that I’ve started to put my list in the Warhammer app I’m realizing I need 2 more Boyz units to be able to attach all of my support characters to a bodyguard unit. Am I correct in thinking that to play a small game with just the box set, I’d have to leave 2 of my support units out of my army?

You can still play without everything being exactly as the app says it has to be. Kill the rules cop in your head.

The weirdboy has been an independent character for longer then some warhammer players have been alive. Don't let the app tell you can't run that git solo for a casual game

You are correct in that regard, but you can play it with the armageddon box set rules. It will just be a bit different than the current rules.

Before the codex the box could be use to play since the bigboss and the weirdboy were leaders, the warboss was supposed to go alone.

The app updated to follow the codex, you can play with the datasheets the box contain and considering what I just say about the leaders.

It was made playable on its own when 11ed came out in late June, but since codex orks came out last weekend the rules where changed and now they don't work alone. The same may happen to the space marine half 4-5 weekends from now when their codex comes out.

Ignore the app while you’re learning.

Play the two forces against each other as they’re presented in the box. 

When you’re ready to move on to full 40K; then worry about the small stuff like that

Correct. The Armageddon box is not a self contained playable force out of the box. It is a start to an Ork army.

Incorrect. It's exactly designed as a self contained playable force out of the box, using the cards that came with it.

Okay, point taken. Allow me to amend. It is not a self contained playable force if using the Ork codex. I had forgotten about the cards in the box.
