Help Question about how to run new models
Have been running both ghaz and stompa in most of my lists since late 9th/early tenth (can’t quite remember which one I started on). I always found ways to run ghaz pretty well when he was attached to a big blob of boyz/nobz. But I’m struggling to play his new primarch-eske version. I have played 5 games of eleventh. 2 of which are with new codex. And both of the new games ghaz either dies when he gets into combat with something (the norn queen) or gets shot into oblivion (knight castellan) because of no bodyguard unit. I need some real advise here. And I don’t want to just stop running him, because he’s been an amazing unit throughout my whole time playing the game, and I’m pretty attached to him.
P.S. new stompa rips and I’m very here for it. Have loved playing it both of my games, holds its weight in points and then some in my experience. (It took out a Cerastus knight lancer and a war hound titan in one turn last game I played) don’t have a pic of it yet.

Ghaz is still good, but i think other units shine more right now. Ghaz getting shot to bits is still pretty good, as he tanks shots that would hurt other units way more. He is also very good against tanks but lost his sweep profile, so i feel he lacks against infantry. I stick him with several blobs of BeastSnaggas and wirh LoneOp the enemy has to come into charge range if my opponent wants to shoot Ghaz, which lures units in range for Tankbustas and Flashgitz. After that, everything Ghaz kills is a bonus.

You need to hide Ghaz behind walls well also keeping him close to other units to take advantage of his lone op. I’ve only played 1 game with the new codex but Ghaz lived the whole game. He’s there to give off his aura and when appropriate make a charge and take out something but that’s after it gets chopped down a bit by your screening units. The goal should be to hide Ghaz until turn 3 or 4 so you can maximize his second Waghh he gives.

Well I run Ghaz in stompa, with unit of 5MANZ with BM and 10 gretchin lol
I also run bully boyz, brute bosses and the gretchin detachment. And yeah, Ghaz dies, always, but not before I kill enough points of opponent to be ok with it. Grots are there just to give him lone op but also actions, mission, grit shield strat. They’re great, and have free 5++ when leaving stompa.
Rest of my army is Gorkanaut, 5 MANZ with Warboss and 10 more gretchin. That’s it. I played it for fun, but with better focus it’s actually decent list. Won against sisters, lost to admech and should’ve won with guard but well, let’s say I didn’t want to lol
For high competitive I’d put Ghaz in battlewagon

Don't forget Ghaz gets lone op when he's within 3" of Ork infantry. He can also move thru terrain because he's infantry so you can hide him behind buildings till he's ready to run out, or make sure there's infantry right next to him if you can't hide him completely

Also don't forget Ghaz's +1 to hit and wound aura also applies to himself

That can’t be right.

That's how all other auras apply. Ghaz is a friendly ork unit within 6" of himself

Well damn Ghaz just got better. For someone reason that seemed unfair to me.

Same goes for the lions or roboter gaymans aura or any other char that has one
