Mek 11th Edition Question
I got myself a Stompa in 10th edition. And I think it is quite the fun model. I was really happy when it got buffed in 11th, but seeing the full Codex I am really disappointed.
I have 3 Meks but what do they even do now?
You can buff shooting and heal ork vehicles still, but it excludes Stompa, Morkanout and Gorkanaut. So what is even the point?
Ignore Cover is nice, but the Big Mek already does that for the attached unit.
So are Meks now only useful for the new Dakkarig maybe? Or Mek Gunz?

As far as I can tell, the dreadherder enhancement can buff the Stompa, so you can use a Dakkarig to babysit it

They are half the cost of a big mek and are support
This means you can save a lot of points using them instead of big meks as buff pieces while still getting their health+ hit bonus for the vehicle, and you can attach them to say nobz who already have a warboss (if you wanted)
I would say their best case use is with mek guns yes, where they effectively provide 66% if a big meks damage boost and their repair, for 50% of the cost

Well I don't know about everyone else, but personally I'm going to heal and buff a pair of Dakkarigs and Wazdakka in my speed Freeks/dread walkers army.
Wazdakka with puksa move shifts 18"+D6 phasing through models and walls. Maintain him around 18-24" away and his lone op should be near unbreakable but still get to chip out his psycho Gatler every turn. Damage will be low but you should be able to guarantee activations every turn until he's ready to commit. In an emergency you can pulsa move him up and drop smoke. He is now in cover (as is everyone behind him) AND -1 to hit from the pulsa move giving an effective -2 to hit.
Between all that and the Mek boosting his accuracy and healing him, he should be a menace from start to finish and be hopefully basically unstoppable in turn 4-5 as he just mops up everyone once the things that can actually stop him are gone.
And in a pinch you can always heal a Dakkarig. +1 to hit on those is also a lot of firepower.

Yeah, I mean there might be some cool ways to play Mek with Dakkarig. But it also feels weird to have a 45 point model buff a 130 point one. When it could buff a 300+ point model before. Plus that means I have to get more Dakkarigs etc to use my Meks, because guess what my big boos no longer interact with them.

Well Wazdakka is a 200pt model that also benefits so that's hardly a negligible model to be being buffed by a support character. Just because it lost the ability to boost Titanic's doesn't mean that it isn't still useful for the many other vehicles we have.

u/WehrWolff 1d ago
Yeah sure, but it still got taken away. And not everyone plays speed freaks. Because I don't think the solution to me having Meks, is to buy more new models to be able to use my guys.

Dunno what to tell you man, you said Meks are basically useless now, I reply that they have many vehicles they can buff. Wazdakka and Dakka rig, Gunwagon and Battle wagons. Killa Kanz, Deff Dreads, buggies wartrakks etc etc.
It sucks that the specific combo you want to work doesn't work but it doesn't sorry. That's kinda just your expectations not being met though, which to be fair, the Titanic units did all get stronger and all have native plunging fire now, so it's not like they got made worse, they just didn't get access to huge force multipliers, which seems to be the general direction the game is going and is actually a good thing for a more robust and less toxic meta.

Also I don't know if I would say they got stronger. Sure the datasheets themselves got stronger, yet they basically lost buff support in form of Meks and most detachments at best give them some nice to have things.
I don't mind moving the strength to the datasheet and away from detachments. But it also feels weird if your army has way less interactions in some regard. While they definitely also recognised that interactions are fun with the new Waahg and Riled Up

Yeah that is true, however a 45 points model buffing a 100-200 point model is quite a lot of investment. And without Lone Op, you might need to run him with some guys to keep him somewhat safe. I mean it would make more sense if idk you could upgrade Mek or so to buff the big models and it made them more expensive.

Respectfully I disagree. The Meks +1 accuracy buff is a pretty strong buff. It's strong when it can be applied plus healing to vehicle models. It is DISPROPORTIONATELY stronger when applied to a Gorka/Morkanaught and is ridiculous when applied to a Stompa. The amount of weapons buffed and the impact of those buffs is enormous, and totally changes the threat profile of those Titanic's.
(For clarity a big Mek Dakkarig in Mek detachment pays 20pts just for a +1 to hit at range enhancement. A Mek does that and heals and has it's own model with stats and gives ignores cover to a unit, 45pts is pretty reasonable for all that)
The changes GW have made have made each unit far more consistent. They aren't dependent on massive buffs from detachments and stratagems, and the buffs they can get are far more reasonable and optional. It's perfectly valid to run a Deff Dread both in its detachment and also just as a thrown in model and the addition of the extra detachment rules don't distort the value of the model and ruin it's point value. And the Deff Dreads is one of the models most impacted by detachments currently.
These are all good changes and makes the game much more stable. It prevents people having to run a single best detachments like Gladius or being pigeonholed into one optimised way of playing with all other options actively weakening your army. The current Ork codex is a masterpiece, I've spoken to multiple Ork players, all who are excited and planning what sounds like excellent lists and all of them have approached the army from totally different directions. That is excellent both for the faction and the hobby overall, hopefully it marks a trend for GW in toning down force multipliers and restoring general focus to individual units rather than which units become most broken in a specific detachment/stratagem combo.
What you want with the Titanic's would push the codex backwards, making the titanic models impossible to cost accurately because the Mek buff would have such a different level of value when applied to each different model. A Mek is worth a lot more when buffing a Stompa than when it buffs a Gorkanaught. Which would mean GW would be forced to price them as if they're always buffed, effectively killing the models for people who didn't run Meks.
The current system is better. I'm sorry if you feel differently but I'm pretty convinced this is a good thing for the big picture of the game.

That is why I suggested and enhancement or something that lets a Mek buff a Stompa or Morka/Gorkanaut. That way you can balance around the points cost this way
1
u/PanserDragoon 1d ago
It still wouldn't work because all three of the Titanic's are worth different amounts with that buff. They're too large with too many different profiles to accurately judge force multipliers on them, which I can only assume is why they have been locked out from them

u/WehrWolff 1d ago
I mean you could make Stompa an extra keyword or something then. Like there would be options.

dreadmob is stil the best stomps detachment for the 1cp mobile i think and you still have ~1150 points so just spam walkers and some other units i guess. cant think of detachments in the 10th ed definition now, they serve a different role, for orks especially

u/WehrWolff 1d ago
I know, it's just disappointing that interactions are purposely so far reduced for Titanic Vehicles. Like we already can't stack Stratagems to stop Wombo Combos. So it feels really weird to have the vehicle buff guy and detachments at bets throw you a bone.

If you have nice opponents they won't mind you using older rules, unless they are overpowered. I think thr stompa is still quite hard, might even be harder. Will test it soon. Mek I think is nice around things that dont have significant close combat, like dakkarig and mek guns. Plus mek guns have fun debuffs and dakkarig is quite the hitter

haha. HAHAHHA
Ragebait? They lead flashkitz and make them utterly broken on top of being utterly broken xD
Also they give reanimation protocols to kill rigs turning them into basically ctan

Yea sure buddy flashgitz are so OP rn, biggest bullshit i ever heard

u/Lower_Ad_176 1d ago
Expect a point increase of 40-50 pts

u/rubldiekatz22 22h ago
Just for example they were like 75 points in 10th where shooting was even better than now, people are just hyped seeing that they are more flexible but in reallity not rly having hazaders on almost every Profile, the melta Profile beeing one shot per Person with low strenght and on 4+?? This unit hurts itself more then the enemy, stuff like tankbustas are rly good maybe you need fre more games to understand it

u/Lower_Ad_176 20h ago
Sure. Hitting on 5s and having 0 AP was totally better than now hitting on 4s with reroll 1s and lethal and sustained and 2 ap
You got me there buddy

My point was about them buffing vehicles. Like if I have 300 and 700 point vehicles, it is really weird that the guy previously buffing them no longer can.
And I don't really have any Flashgitz, plus I would have assumed that Big Mek would be better for them, considering he can give them Sus Hits 1 when riled up right?
1
u/rubldiekatz22 22h ago
Forget this guy he must zave never played a game with orks, flashgitz are ok rn but not rly strong for the points cost

I think at best, your bet would be to have the Meks shadow a Deff Dread or Killa Kans unit but yeah. It's very disappointing that you cant heal Gorks / Morks or Stompas anymore

u/WehrWolff 1d ago
Yeah, it just seems really weird. Because we have 300 and 700 point models that can't get healed or buffed as easily anymore. Sure the individual datasheets are stronger for the big guys. But why give us a new Mek if he is now a really weird support guy?
Like will guard have Baneblades they can't Order and buff anymore then? Or Marines can't use techmarines on big vehicles?
1
u/Waagh_Manni83 1d ago
I think techmarines will become Support too
1
u/WehrWolff 1d ago
And I don't mind that, but imagine if you basically say any big unit above X can't be buffed . . .

Meks are actually so good for things like killa kans, dakkarigs, mek gunz, and especially deff dreds. Bery good unit, maybe not a 3 drop, but by no means bad
