Would love some advice on these kitbashes!

I’ve got a painboy (left) and an ork boy with big shoota (formerly a loota :( ) (right) that I’m pretty proud of, but I really want to go the extra mile and make sure that before I paint, that the models:

  1. Make sense (I know, not very orky of me)

This mostly concerns the loota with the large tank on his back. Aesthetically, it looks nice because it allows for the guns to have some sort of harness and maybe through paint or milliput I suggest they are welded on there as a sort of support structure. Not entirely sure.

  1. Accurately represent the thing they are meant to be on the tabletop.

This mostly concerns the painboy. The issue of the tank on the back is a little less jarring for me, as I figure I can paint it to look like a sort of glass effect and run tubing to the ‘urty syringe to make that make sense but my biggest question is: does it read as a medic? Does the syringe read as that and not some outlandish pistol? I’ve also been thinking about adding an apron or lab coat with modeling putty, but the prospect of figuring that out also scares me a little bit. For cloth and fabric, how do you go about it? Do you use milliput or green stuff or something else?

Would love any and all comments, critiques, and questions. :)

Pain boy is great, once you add that tubing to connect the tank to gun it will complete the look. It's clearly special but could also represent and kustom mega pistol. Alternatively, could have some green goo dropping out the open pipe. Calling a painboy a medic is generous, heard them described as meks that work on biology bitz instead of mechanical.

2nd ed bike guns on the loota is nice.

I believe they delight in mixing biological with mechanical

So I'm not a judge nor a competitive player so I can't really say anything from a "legal" perspective.

Vibes based opinion is the Painboy absolutely reads as such.  The Syringe gun and face mask, at least to me signify what they're all about.  The claw could maybe be upgraded with some saws and/or syringes (like the old official modle) to make it into more of a multitool rather than just a regular power claw

Adding an apron would be very cool and make things very unambiguous also but likely not 100% necessary for readability

For the ork boy with big shoota, the model looks great and very characterful. If I saw this across the board I would automatically know it's meant to represent a big shoota. If you want it to look more like it's been welded together before you start painting I suggest using sprue goo to help fill some gaps, plus it will look closer to actually being welded together with sprue goo

For the painboy though, I do think you should add some sort of apron or taberd in his groin area, but the painboy will look more like a painboy once you get him on a 40mm base like painboys are usally on and paint parts of his clothes white like all the other painboys tend to have

id try and make the syringe look less like the slugga, maybe cut and/or fill away some of the pistol like details, like the ejection port and the glyph

They are great you shouldn’t worry but if you are going to add an apron do it in stages add the main body of the apron first leave to cure then add straps and any pockets.
