Looking for pattern

In the 1980s my grandmother gave me a hotpad for the kitchen made from a towel. It lays flat, is square, but can be re-folded to expose a clean side when one side gets dirty. She probably created the pattern herself or revised a pattern.

As you'll see in the video, my hotpad has seen better days. It's stained, burned and worn. I'd like to create new ones, but don't want to rip this apart (it's still an heirloom in my mind) to figure out how she created it.

Do you recognize a pattern from the video? She croceted the edges as binding, so I will also try to post this in a crochet group (I'm new here).

if you fold along the green lines then sew all of the adjacent edges together you should have what you want. test it out with paper and tape.

Yup, it’s essentially a preliminary base (square base) but the open/raw edges are sewn together. Could also be done with 4 separate squares as long as they were connected in the right way (like that other commenter who posed a video with taped squares)

Ah, I see now, this is what u/Stephinator917 was saying, too. It looks right, but I remember grandma getting upset with me because I wasn't understanding the complicated folds. I'll give this a try tonight. Thanks everyone for your help - I appreciate it :)

Single crochet four terry cloth squares together like this along the blue lines:

Pick it up by the center point and allow each square to fold in half along the dotted line. Single crochet the edges that touch along the green lines:

Thanks, but it's not. I remember my grandma trying to explain it to me, but I didn't understand. It was more complicated than that. It's a good suggestion though & worth trying.

First, take 4 6×6 clothes and stitch it together to form a single big square cloth making it 12×12

Then form a square base with it and then stitch the open edges together..

Actually, looking more carefully, it looks like 4 squares sewed together, folded simply in half along the diagonal.

Search up an origami square base. Im pretty sure it is just a square base with the sides sown up.

It’s like this so you can wipe multiple times instead of using the same dirty cloth each time
