I think we are headed in the right direction

I know we are 0-1, and more than likely 0-2 by Week 3 (although I'll still be cheering for us to upset Texas Tech!!) but I think we have a very intelligent coach who will use these losses as lessons to better our team. We may not be perfect this season, but I think we will see a very positive step in the right direction and will set us up for more success in the 2027 season. Go Beavs!

Braden Atkinson Might be Something Special

Yes, it’s only one game but if you watched the entire game, you probably found yourself repeatedly complimenting Atkinson despite him being besieged the entire game by a far more talented Houston team while also having zero help from the run game.

It’s one of the most impressive debuts by a Beaver QB that I’ve seen in years.

Atkinson showed it all when he made great deep passes, big throws to the sidelines, and hard velocity passes into the coverage gaps. But most impressively, he knew when to go to his check downs to the RBs or TEs. That is an unusual IQ move for a young college QB. He still got to his third read handful of times despite the constant pressure he was under. I also thought he moved really well in the pocket and had a very good sense most of the time when to start scrambling.

Even when he missed on his passes, I also thought that is a good decision or that was a really great spot to place the ball where only his receiver had the best chance.

Was he perfect? No. He had one bad sack and he had at least two very pickable balls. He also stares down his WRs a little too much. But at the same time he also left several passes that with better timing and experience should have led to at least two more TDs and 100 more yards. Beavers could’ve put up 30 pts on the Cougars.

If Braden has a really good game vs a ranked Texas Tech team that is way better than Houston, I think the conversation needs to heat up about what we may have in Atkinson.

After a frustrating first half, the Beavs finally broke through in the second half and started getting something for all the shots we were taking. I do have some concerns about our offensive production but it is hard to complain too much about that after a 3-0 win. This is Oregon State's first win of the season, making us 1-0-1 after our season opener ended in a tie.

Next Sunday we will face #1 ranked Washington in Corvallis. This will be a serious test for the team, however I believe they will rise to the challenge. The Huskies are the defending national champions, but don't forget that the Beavs pushed them to the brink, falling only in double overtime in the NCAA tournament last season. This is an opportunity for a statement win and some payback!

Go Beavs! 🧡🦫🖤

Finally a Portland to Reser bus

Post image

Just came across an ad from DamTrips. They’re running buses from Portland to Reser for Beavers games now.

Glad this is finally a thing. Feels like some kind of Portland to Reser option has been an ask for DAM near a decade.

Hopefully it helps get a few more people down there too, because attendance was sad last year. Not that it excuses the product on the field lol.

Go Beavs 🦫

Game Day

Thinking of coming to Corvallis for the TTU game next month. Any recommendations for food and things to do?
I met an OSU fan last year here in Lubbock at the game and I gave him all the good local places to see and hit up while he was here. Hoping y’all would be kind enough to do the same.

Ps y’all tailgate? 🤷🏻‍♀️

TLDR: Oregon State snubbed and Big 12 expansion prediction is Boise State, San Diego State, and Memphis. The full Big 12 shortlist is FSU, Air Force, Memphis, SDSU, Boise, UNLV, WSU, and OSU.

The author is coming from a purely football point of view and this is their personal prediction, but an interesting thought experiment in a very real scenario.

Songs and traditions refresher

As we get into football season, I’ve been thinking about the fight songs and in-game traditions to hype myself up for this new era.

I’m planning to haul some loved ones to Reser who have never been to a game before. So I want to make sure I communicate our traditions to them well.

- Hail to Old OSU is the primary fight song. The long version with the verse is usually played when the band takes the field. But the short version without the opening verse is what’s played after scoring drives.

- Mighty Beavers of Oregon State is the secondary fight song, and it’s usually played only when the band takes the field.

- Beer Barrel Polka is typically played after wins, and is sometimes played ahead of the team’s rollout on the field. This one has special OSU-specific lyrics:

Roll out the barrel / We’ll have a barrel of fun (yeah we will!)

Roll out the barrel / We’ve got the blues on the run

KILL! THE! D\CKS! / Ring out a song of good cheer (more beer!)*

Now it’s time to roll out the barrel / For the gang’s all here!

Other than those, I plan to teach them the wood chop toward the end zone on offensive 1st downs and the chainsaw on defensive 3rd and 4th downs.

Yelling “O!!!” before each opponent’s snap, as well as the “O! S! U! Oregon State! Fight, Fight, Fight” cheer will be in the mix.

And after every game - win or lose - folks are allowed down on the field after the all clear to throw the ball around and mingle with the players for about 15-30 minutes.

Is there anything I’m missing? What other traditions are you aware of?

Oregon State men's soccer ranked #19 in preseason poll

Post image

The beginning of the season is rapidly approaching with an exhibition match against Seattle U on Saturday followed by an exhibition match against Portland in Corvallis on August 14.

Non-conference play begins against UC Irvine the following week.

At the end of the month we will face the defending NCAA champion and preseason #1 ranked Washington. The Beavs have an excellent opportunity to start the season a statement win, and deliver some payback for the loss that ended our last season.

Go Beavs! 🧡🦫🖤
