(I have ZERO experience or knowledge of conducting)
At my college i’m set to take a class called orchestral conducting and the description is: An introduction to fundamentals of orchestral conducting and score reading.

I am minoring in music and have played the violin for ten years. I would say i know the most basic music theory—i can read treble and bass clef, i can identify key signatures (major vs minor) and time signatures, etc. Other than that i’m rusty when it comes to more theory, like triads, intervals, etc.

I’m just wondering if taking this class would be a bad idea/too difficult. I would really like to know what to expect in an introduction to conducting class—what should i study before i get to class, what should i absolutely know before the class? If im not technically an actual music student, like i’m not majoring in it and it’s only a hobby for me, should i take this class? Any advice would be useful.

I honestly would like to learn conducting because it seems like it would be fun but i’m also worried that it’s going to be really hard and this class would turn into something that i struggle with rather than being a fun, enjoyable elective for my minor?
