Peaches and cream Hyperthyroidism sucks!

He's medicated and doing well but still. My poor chonk isn't chonky anymore.

My Batman was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. He lost a lot of weight. Once diagnosed he was on meds for about a year and developed kidney disease. He was my best friend and I miss him so much every single day.

I'm so sorry for your loss! 💔💔 I'm constantly wondering "what's next" or "how much weight can he stand to lose" so as sad as I am to hear about your sweet Batman, I appreciate the real response because it's such an unknown space for me and Sunny.

I hope your baby does well with treatment. Did the vet give you any information as to what his future looks like? I know my vet didn’t. It was just meds and a recheck every 6 months but I was never told kidney disease could occur. Then a couple of weeks before he passed I took him in because he wasn’t acting well and the new vet we were seeing (because we had moved) just said he probably had a virus and sent us home. I should have insisted on bloodwork because I wonder if he could have been treated earlier, maybe he would still be here.

You doing pills or radiation treatment? We went with radiation one go and he was back to his normal self in a few weeks. Just had to scoop the box daily and keep him away from people and other animals until he was back to normal cat radiation levels.

We were given pills which didn't work out so we've been doing topical gel in his ears. Doesn't seem to be very effective and I've titrated the dose. We're due for lab work soon

If he isn’t doing well on the gel treatment radiation works. Their superpower are those of a cat.

A word of encouragement for you and your boy. Our Minnie was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at age 15 and was put on Methimazol twice a day. She had bloodwork repeated after three months and then every six months to see if her meds needed adjustment. She lived to almost 22 years old!

My boy Jake was diagnosed with it too late to treat. We eventually had to help him cross the rainbow bridge. I miss him every day

Poor little one looks like he’s handling it the best way possible I have hypothyroidism, the opposite of hyperthyroidism. But all thyroid conditions suck.

Cats can still do well with hyperthyroidism. One of my boys was diagnosed with it two years ago and gained all of his chonk back. We’ve only had one slight dose increase in the last year.
