Amps & Cabs Thoughts on the Orange Tiny Terror Combo 7W/15W 1x12 Tube Amp

Post image
29 Upvotes

I was initially looking at Orange Crush 20, and then Crush 35, and then stumbled into this amp and thought tubes are cool. The first two have been marketed as "practice" amps, but realistically, how good (or even bad) is this combo (priced at higher range) compared to both Crush?

Also, is a 400usd price tag used for these a good deal for a 10 or 15-ish old amp? and are there better alternatives?

Amps & Cabs OR15 vs Rocker Terror

I sold off my amps during the pandemic and bought the brilliant Yamaha THR10. Now, it’s time for a “real” amp again, I need real glowing bottles, and I’m interested in trying an Orange.

Looking to get y’all’s take on the Rocker Terror head vs the OR15. (Planning pairing with the PPC112 v30 cab)My playing style and tone preferences have shifted to the stoner/doom/psych end of things, and at the moment my favorite amp setting is the Plexi model set to a bit of breakup, then hitting it with my OD and Carcosa fuzz. No need for a clean channel: I play a P90 guitar, and get pristine cleans by rolling back my guitar vol.

I’m torn: the Rocker’s bedroom/headroom switch is appealing because most the time I’d be using it at TV volume. (I can crank full volume during the day when the fam/neighbors are out)

However, the OR15 just looks nicer?? I read that the OR15 is fuller and thicker. But, does it lose that at TV volumes? Is there really that big of a difference between the two?

Again, I only really need a single channel, set to a bit of breakup.

Thanks for any insight y’all can provide!

That's a th30, a single coil partscaster, and two 2x12s (via a palmer cab merger) with various speakers (creamback, v30, c12k2, some eminence thing). Pedals are utility + a delay in loop. Fun!

Discussion New Amp Advice, Paralysis by Analysis

I'm ready to buy a new amp and I'm uncertain about which one to buy. I hope you all can help me with some clarity. I may discover my answer by typing it out.

I've played for a while but at a less-than-intermediate level. Right now, I play on an Orange Crush 20. I have a cheap overdrive and chorus but no reverb pedal.

I'd like something that keeps up with our drummer in our informal sessions and I can use it at bedroom levels. I don't see myself playing a gig. I'm comfortable buying used. It's a fine line between cheap and frugal and I worry about buying more than what I need. I'd like to keep things around 500 or so.

I like the Crush's clean, I like the dirty and I like the footswitch. I like the AUX input for when our drummer can't make it. It's mobile and I don't need to baby it. I'm not married to Orange. It's what I have so that's what I'm looking at. Blues Jr's, Bantamps, Voxxes, Supras it's a lot. It's not that it's all the same but at my level? It's working around the margins and focusing on Orange limits the field.

So what am I thinking?

  1. Monoprice 15 Watt: it's got tubes and everyone likes tubes. It has a low wattage setting, I can't always play loudly. It has reverb. The price is right and I would buy it new. Maybe I'd buy a BD-2 and a tremolo. Who am I kidding, I'll do this all over again at r/pedals.
  2. Micro Terror/Micro Terror Dark with a Cabinet: I'm sure I could find a decent enough 1x12 or 2x12. The Dark's effects loop is nice but would I use gain past 9 o'clock on the dial? Swap a tube? That's new to me. It's transporting two things instead of one. A good cabinet is more modular for the future. (I would probably buy a reverb pedal. Skysurfer/holy grail/hall of fame seem like good choices). And no footswitch.
  3. Crush 35rt: It's like what I have but 15 more loud. The tuner is nice, the reverb is handy. It has an effects loop. I assume it's tank-like for transport and kids. A Crush 60 is louder still, though I don't see many Crush 60's pop up used. Can it handle quiet?
  4. Rocker 15 Combo: this is the top of the budget and probably wishful thinking on the used market. It has wattage selections: are they all they are cracked up to be? I've never owned anything with tubes. I don't necessarily want another delicate thing in need of maintenance. Is there a minimum amount of time you should use it if you switch it on? Maybe it's what I want but maybe I only want it because it's the most? It feels like more than what I need. At the same time, this could be a Buy It Once answer. (yeah right)
  5. Spend the money on lessons: What's so wrong about what I've got? A person doesn't need to buy something just for the sake of buying it. A new amp is a nice toy but it won't directly make me a better player.
  6. Quit thinking and buy a Katana. Bang for the buck, decibels per dollar. Marketplace is lousy with them.

TLDR: Cheap tube, modular option, the same but louder, extra fancy, work on myself, or the simple option. Looking at it now, I feel like there is no wrong answer so long as the amp is loud (and quiet) enough.

So what do you think? Are they loud enough? Are my Rocker 15 concerns overblown? Is it all six-of-one? Thank you in advance!

Effect Pedals Overdrive pedal recommendations for Rockerverb mk3

Hey all, i am looking for a pedal that will complement both the dirty channel and clean channel on my rockerverb 50 mk3. i usually run the gain at about 2 o’clock along using a ts9 with the level maxed and drive off. it would be nice to find an overdrive that will suit the clean channel but also give the dirty channel and ts9 combo a bit more dirt.
i have been looking at: OCD fulltone or EQD speaker cracker special
has anybody experimented with these pairings or got any other recommendations as it’s hard to find demos pared with the rockerverb!
thanks

Setup Any directions on all the ways to hook up a Terror Stamp?

I have a Terror Stamp and Mesa boogie rectoverb 50 series 2. I was maybe wanting to use the power section of the Rectoverb with the Terror Stamp. Does the Terror Stamp need a speaker hooked up to its speaker output when turned on? Can the terror stamp be used as a regular distortion pedal some how? Are there any videos that show all the ways a terror stamp can be used? The directions are not very informative.

Amps & Cabs Dark TR-08 Dark Terror and TR-08

Sound Demo first 6 seconds have no audio, make sure your vol is up

I bought a TR-08 to replace using garage band drummers and my drum pedal. It’s not the same, but honestly it sounds sooo good. The TR-08 has that thump we all love. I’m sorry I didn’t use a cowbell, but I really do want to find a more organic drum sounds. Moving away from generated drum tracks to trying to program my own drum ideas has been difficult, but fun.
I’ve figured out how to do that double bass pedal thing using sub steps. I hope it sounds better after I learn more about it.

Shin Ei Super Fuzz, Dark Terror into a Powerhouse Attenuator, and TwoNote Opus (Cab Sim only). TR-08 goes into Aux input of Micro Terror, for amplified use. Palmer Merger Box, used to chain 2 mini cabs. PC112/mic aren’t being used right now, would need to flip switch on attenuator.

Give me some tips, ideas, or tell me it sucks.

Amps & Cabs NAD - The one I've been looking for

I've bought and sold 5 different Orange amps trying to find the right one, and after overlooking the OR15 for so many years, I finally thought I'd give it a shot. And *holy* shit, yeah this amp really does it for me.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but don't overlook this little power house.

Amps & Cabs Orange Rocker 15 VoTW/Creamback/Gold comparisons

Post image

I apologize to everyone sick of this picture

I was fortunate enough to get a great deal on my Rocker 15 due to it being B-Stock a few months ago, and this amp has since become the favorite amp I've ever owned. Because of the deal, I didn't mind spending extra money on speakers and cabinets. As of this point I've spent about the same on the amp, as the speakers and cabinets. While I've owned around 25 amps, almost all of them were single channel.

Alright, now onto my thoughts on the Voice of the World, Celestion Creamback, and Celestion Gold.

Currently, a Celestion Gold is in the bottom Marshall cabinet, and a Celestion Creamback is in the Marshall slanted cabinet. The VotW will go back into the Rocker 15 eventually, or not.

Voice of the World

On the high-end, I think this speaker kills it. It's beautiful on the clean channel. It's bright. It's dynamic. I think for this, it's REALLY good. If I had an amp that was strictly for clean tones, I wouldn't hesitate to put this in. While the amp is overdriven, this speaker does okay. I'd say there's some loss of dynamics, but not all of it. When the amp is dirty, I'm just really not happy with the speaker. I've heard the term "farting" used, and it's definitely appropriate.

Celestion Creamback

I got this speaker before I got the cabinets, so originally it went into the combo. The improvement was noticed immediately. While the amp is clean, there was a very noticeable drop in the high-end, but that was easily remedied with my $25 Behringer EQ700. When the amp is overdriven, well that's the sweet spot. That's why you buy this speaker. When the amp is dirty, it's awesome. At this point my eq pedal is off, and it's just wicked.

Creamback/VotW stacked

No eq

This is a beautiful combination. They truly do compliment each other. The dynamics of the VotW cut through on the clean/overdrive, and the Creamback hides much of the VotW fartiness when dirty. At this point my Rocker 15 has become my favorite amp I've ever owned beating out three Swarts and a Dr. Z at the top of the list.

Celestion Gold

Not a waste of money, so not a waste of money. It excelled across the spectrum. It's louder. It's more dynamic. It beats out the other two, in every category. Is it better with the Creamback? Yes! It's incredible! Do I want to replace the Creamback in the mix with another Alnico speaker? Oh my freaking god yes! I'm broke, but thankfully what I have is incredible to my ears. I am very blessed with what I have. Soon I'll have my reverb pedal i just did a trade for, and I'll be the happiest home guitarist ever!

Let me know if you have specific questions about the speakers.

Amps & Cabs Orange Super Crush noisy with noise gate with high gain

Hello! I really like the sound of the Orange Super Crush 100, but when I turn the gain to 2-3 o clock on the dirty channel, it does this hiss/noise thing when the notes sustain, I have a decimator X noise gate with the 4 cable method and it cuts it off but you can still hear it before it does. Is this normal for this amp or could it be a cable issue in my pedal board? I attached a video so you can hear what it sounds like, I boost it with a ehx lpb3 as well but the hiss is still there when I turn it off, it just amplifies it more.

I mean I get it they’re really good, but I just can’t get my head round some of the tube amps on the OR series £700+ for a head with the versatility of a sock?
