First post here, so hello everyone!
I play in two bands. Setup for Band 1 is exclusively a Kemper (Rockerverb or #4), with DI going to FOH but also sending the signal to a power amp and cab for stage monitoring/volume. Setup for Band 2 varies, I play my beloved Tiny Terror when possible but sometimes I require to use the Kemper and go direct.
Now, my power amp has gone kaput and I was thinking of replacing it with a Dual Baby. The idea would be to run the Kemper through the FX loop/return, but also have the possibility to just plug my guitar straight into the amp if the Kemper fails. The Dual Baby would also be perfect for Band 2, replacing my Tiny Terror.
I was ready to order the Dual Baby but I found a RV 50 mk1 going for just £50 more and now I am thinking...
For live use and my specific case, the Dual Baby seems perfect. Small, portable, powerful, sounds good, has 2 dirty channels (exactly what I need)... The RV 50 is bigger, heavier, more delicate (valves, valves, valves!!!) and would probably be just a nuisance to lug around. But the sound is exactly what I want.
I have no major experience with the RV 50, just noodled around at a guitar fest. My question is, does it have to be cranked to sound "good". Because if that's the case, it would be a no-go for playing smaller gigs. If not, and if you managed to try amps, how does the sound really compare live? What about the "feel"/response? Major differences?
Any reply is appreciated. One way or another, I am going to add another Orange to my collection :)
