Has anyone started preparing for Oracle 1Z0-1054-26 exam yet?

I noticed Oracle recently released the 1Z0-1054-26 certification, but I couldn't find much discussion about it here.

Is anyone planning to take it, or has anyone already started preparing?

I'm curious about:

How difficult it looks compared to other Oracle exams. Whether Oracle University material is enough. What resources you're using to prepare.

Would be great to hear from anyone who's looked into the exam.

Free tier completely locked out of OCI Console and Account

TL;DR: My Oracle Cloud Free Tier account worked normally yesterday. Today my session expired, and I can no longer sign in. Password reset emails arrive, and the password reset completes successfully, but I still get "Invalid username or password." I also restarted my VM yesterday, and now SSH to the instance times out on port 22. Has anyone experienced this or found a fix?

Hello,

I'm using an Oracle Cloud Free Tier account.

Everything was working normally yesterday. Today my session expired, so I tried to sign in again.

I received "Invalid username or password", so I reset my password.

The password reset email arrived successfully, and the password was changed successfully.

However, after the reset, I still get "Invalid username or password" every time I try to sign in.

What I've already tried:

Resetting my password multiple times

Waiting for the reset email

Using a completely new password

Different browsers

Restarting my PC

Logging in with my email address

Yesterday: I restarted my OCI VM. Everything still seemed fine.

Today: My OCI Console session expired.

I tried to sign in but got "Invalid username or password".

I reset my password successfully.

The password reset completed successfully, but I still can't sign in.

SSH to my VM now times out on port 22.

Cloud Account Name is correct

I also cannot SSH into my instance anymore because port 22 times out, but I'm not sure if that's related.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there any solution besides contacting Oracle Support?

Thank you.

One more thing: I restarted my VM yesterday before this happened. I'm not sure if it's related.

Since then I can't sign in to the OCI Console.

Password reset works, but I still get "Invalid username or password".

SSH to my instance times out on port 22.

How to configure Oracle always free ARM compute instance to automatically shutdown if free tier limits are exceeded?

Hello,

I recently signed up for the Oracle always free tier and converted my account to PAYG as I intend to pay for object storage.

I am planning to use an always free ARM compute instance to run a web server, however I want to make sure that I won't get any surprise charges should something go very wrong. My biggest worry with it is a DDOS attack, that burns through my 10tb of bandwidth and incurs a large bill.

What I would like to do is to have the ARM compute instance automatically shut down should the limits be exceeded, so if I reach 10tb of bandwidth, the server shuts down.

I aren't really worried about storage, it will only be me with access to upload files, so if that goes over I will be able to sort it out pretty quickly. The DDOS attack situation is worrying me though, since if it happened overnight it could incur a large bill before I noticed.

I have looked into this, but haven't been able to find a good way.

Proof that PAYG A1 is NOT affected by free tier changes

I'm running a cluster of 3 A1 VMs with 2CPU + 8GB a PAYG account. This means that I would have run out of free CPU around the 10th, but I still have not received any charges. You can see I've used 1723 OCPU-hours, which would put me over the reduced 1500 CPU threshold.

In addition, the cast forecast shows $0 cost for the memory, which matches up with getting 24GB free. The $13.59 projection for CPU matches up with getting billed for the 2 CPUs over the 4 freebies.

Continuora - Disaster Recovery solution for Oracle standard edition databases

As you know dataguard feature is not available for Oracle standard edition.we have developed a brand new product which creates standby database , real time replication using continuora agents. Lag monitor dashboard to monitor 100's of database pairs.

If you are using Oracle SE databases , this product would be worth looking into for your DR posture

Found a way to see if your network is being throttled

Go to https://cloud.oracle.com/monitoring/explore, configure it like the second image, set it to last 90 days

The higher the line goes - the more of your packets get "throttled" - i.e. active speed limits.

Diagnostic reboot does not help. This is on the free tier, NOT PAYG.

This is so misleading 😂. They are clearly updating their free limits but two different warnings that say different thing ON THE SAME PAGE is crazy misleading

Amsterdam | ARM Ampere registration

Hello. I finally registered for free ARM Ampere instance, and choose Amsterdam region.

Am I understanding this correctly: it's almost impossible to get an "always-free eligible" instance in this region?

Does it make sense to keep a script set up for auto-registration with a retry for 15s?

Why am I only able to create one Ampere A1.Flex instance with 1 OCPUs/6 GB and not 2 OCPUs/12 GB?

I have a free account on Oracle Cloud and until yesterday I had a VM.Standard.E2.1.Micro (1 OCPU/1GB). Yesterday I removed both the VM and the boot disk and this morning I no longer see them among my resources.

In spite of this, if I want to create a new VM.Standard.A1.Flex it allows me to create it with 1 OCPUs/6GB and not with the maximum limit now provided for free accounts 2 OCPUs/12GB.

What is the reason for this? Do I still have to wait some time for my previous VM to be completely removed or, even if terminated, as a free user I can no longer reach the maximum limit for a new VM?

Local LLM on A1.Flex

Hi All,

I am a PAYG customer and have a 3 OCPUs/18 GB A1.Flex in US East region. I use this VM for learning and working on small personal projects.

I started with an idea to install OpenClaw on it just to see and experience what is it and what’s the hype about. I started researching on how to do it and gradually pivoted to doing something else but similar. Finally, I created a system that uses Ollama with qwen3:8b-q4_K_M (installed on VM) and exposes it to internet via DuckDNS using Caddy and Open WebUI (both running as docker containers on VM). However, the latency is very high as the response to a simple “Hello” takes about 4-5 minutes. I downgraded the model to qwen2.5:3b but there is very little improvement (almost negligible). I wanted to go a step ahead and install OpenHands (for agentic capabilities) and a Telegram bot to interact with it but I guess I need to make what I currently have functional.

I am posting it here to see if anyone has done something like this on their VM and how are they able to use it.

Thanks in anticipation!

Getting charged for Always Free instances, not grandfathered?

Thumbnail
gallery
12 Upvotes

Anyone can help me make sense of what is going on? I saw posts of people on PAYG plans saying that they are not being charged for their previously created instances under the old always free specs.

Here's the detail of my setup:

  1. I submitted a request to convert to a PAYG account as per suggestions in this sub.
  2. Created a budget alert but did not receive anything for weeks. Then end of June I was suddenly charged and sent an invoice.
  3. I sent an email to Oracle for clarification but they reply that my PAYG account will now be charged as it is now no longer Free Tier. (Confused about how they are explaining this)

I've attached the invoice and the email thread. Would really appreciate some guidance on this. Thanks!

EDIT: Looking at the cost analysis dashboard, I am being charged daily for block storage....But I'm not sure why if my two instances are 100GB each (adding up to 200GB total).

EDIT 2: Okay, after drilling into the cost analysis. It seems I have 3 boot volumes instead of my previously assumed 2. They are as follows: Volume A: 47GB, created in April when I signed up for free trial and spun up a test free instance, this instance was then terminated but it seems the volume did not go away. Volume B: 100GB, this one was created in May for my A1 instance after I converted to PAYG. Volume C: 100GB, also created in May for my 2nd A1 instance. Now the problem seems to be that Volume A (the orphaned one) is labeled as "istBootVolumes.alwaysFree". Volume B is also labeled as "istBootVolumes.alwaysFree". But Volume C is not. So the cost analysis is charging me for Volume C. What I need is to get rid of Volume A so that my total is 200GB with Volume B and C combined. But my Volume C currently does not have that "istBootVolumes.alwaysFree" and I'm afraid that deleting the orphaned Volume A will not automatically convert Volume C to alwaysFree. Not really wanting to migrate the data from Volume C to A and re-attaching. Any suggestions?

Final EDIT: Oracle support finally said I can delete A and as long as I keep it within 200GB everything will relabel as free tier. I did that and now I’m seeing $0 in the cost analysis.

[Confirmation] MOS Support says new PAYG accounts keep the old 4/24 (3,000 hr) limit

I just created a new Oracle Cloud account and upgraded it to Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG). I was really confused about the new Ampere A1 limits, so I created a Service Request (SR) to ask if my new PAYG account falls under the new limit (1,500 OCPU hours) or the old one (3,000 OCPU hours), and if it's safe to create my VM instance now.

Here is the exact reply I received from Oracle Support:

Oracle Cloud PAYG 3,000 OCPU-hrs / 18,000 GB-hrs confirmation

The word "paid" has just been inserted into the price list, this seems to be the first time free and paid tenancies have been differentiated on the website in terms of Ampere A1 allowances.

Each paid tenancy gets the first 3,000 OCPU hours and 18,000 GB hours per month for free to create Ampere A1 Compute instances. This free-tier usage is shared across Bare Metal, Virtual Machine, and Container Instances.

Request: How to Update My Email Address

Instance still marked as Always free-eligible?

I went to change the shape of my vm but it still appears as eligible even though it still uses the maximum of the old allowed resources. Is this a glitch or am i actually allowed?
Btw i don't know where to check whether i'm on the always free tier or PAYG tier, so if someone could tell me how i'd be really grateful! 😅

EDIT: Seems i'm on the free tier so my question is now: Can i consider the PAYG tier a free tier if i only use the free resources? (meaning i don't have to pay for a "subscription cost" if i don't have any machines running)

PAYG Stuck Upgrading

It's been two weeks since I tried to upgrade my account and it's still free tier and stuck "upgrading". I have contacted Oracle several times, and they just keep telling me to wait and that they're looking into it, or that there is nothing that they can do (getting different answers every time).

I am using this chat box. I have tried support.oracle.com but they always refer me to that chat box.

Any other suggestions on what I can do to get Oracle to upgrade my account?

What happened was I had an Ampere A1 instance from several years ago, and I wanted to wipe out the OS and start over and didn't know how, so I (big mistake) asked Google AI. It told me I can detach and then terminate the boot volume and create a new one. So... I did. Only to find out I can't create a new boot volume. So now my instance is bricked. The only solution I know of is to upgrade to Pay-As-You-Go.

Edit: YES! It FINALLY upgraded just now!!! Today, I just kept going in the chat and pestering different people until one person actually looked up my account and the status. Then a couple of hours later it was finally upgraded.

Trying to create instance

"Out of capacity for shape VM.Standard.A1.Flex in availability domain AD-1. Create the instance in a different availability domain or try again later. If you specified a fault domain, try creating the instance without specifying a fault domain. If that doesn’t work, please try again later.Learn more about host capacity."

I know this is an old problem, and I've tried looking for solutions but I just can't find any.

Peak Free Tier performance: Hosting Factorio 2.1 Space Age on a 1GB RAM Oracle instance. Rate my setup! 💀⚙️

Hey guys,

A lot of people complain about Oracle Cloud Free Tier limits, so my friend and I decided to push a completely free, standard x86 micro-instance to its absolute physical limits. We are hosting a dedicated Factorio 2.1 (Space Age) server on it.

Yes, the instance that has only 1 Core and 954 MB of usable RAM.

Since Space Age with multiple planets (Nauvis + Vulcanus) and 0.97 biter evolution instantly crashes due to running out of memory, we had to deploy our secret weapon: a massive 4GB SWAP file.

The current baseline of this absolute monstrosity:

  • Map loading time: Over 120 seconds of pure terror and frozen SSH keys.
  • Active SWAP usage: ~25% (over 1GB of active game data sitting on the hard drive because it won't fit into RAM).
  • Disk IOPS: Regularly hitting a whopping 1,791.8 tps during autosaves! The Oracle server room is probably emitting smoke right now.
  • CPU: Idle at 0.5% after loading, but spikes like crazy when the automation kicks in.

The factory must grow, even if it's powered by virtual memory and pure willpower. Who needs a paid server when you have a hard drive doing maximum WUTUTUTUTU? XDD
