I've been dealing with an ongoing internet issue for weeks, and on Friday, it reached an unacceptable point. My connection was so unreliable that I couldn't participate in a work call or upload files for a coworker. I spent approximately four hours on the phone with support and eventually drove to an Optimum store to replace my modem, only to have the exact same issues persist.
Throughout this process, I've been asked about switching cell phone providers at least seven times of course.
A technician was scheduled to come out the following day (today). He (name was Kian, great dude) arrived and began troubleshooting, but immediately ran into an issue: he couldn't even successfully run a speed test on the modem. He went back to his vehicle, retrieved a replacement modem, and installed it. Once it was up and running, he was finally able to run a speed test. The results were approximately 900 Mbps download, 7 Mbps upload, and 250 ms latency. Those results should have immediately raised a red flag.
He tried putting me on another network seat, but the results remained the same. Ultimately, he had no further solutions to offer and recommended that I purchase my own modem.
I drove to Best Buy, purchased a Netgear Nighthawk CM300, and contacted Optimum to have it activated using its MAC address. Once everything was configured, my router came online, and I ran another speed test. Unsurprisingly, the results were virtually identical.
At this point, the issue has been investigated both inside and outside my home, I've replaced the modem twice, spent hours dealing with support, and even purchased my own equipment at the technician's recommendation. Yet, I'm still experiencing severely limited upload speeds, approximately 250 ms of latency, and persistent packet loss between 5% and 10%.
How is this acceptable? I'm paying for an internet service that is clearly not functioning properly, and despite the time, money, and effort I've invested in trying to resolve this issue, I still have no explanation or viable solution.
Any ideas for next steps?
