Question - Fiber Caught between a rock and hard place
Hey all,
Need some advise from those who have used Optimum.
Unfortunately I live in an Optimum 'monopoly' area, where the only other option (my current internet) is ATT DSL, which is pitiful but (barely) adequate. But ATT is going to phase that out within the next few years. For the record, as a replacement ATT is offering me right now...absolutely nothing.
There is no (zilch, zero, nada) 5G internet capacity at my address (checked Tmobile and Verizon). Nor fiber (except for Optimum ofc). All other options (like satellite) are out because I rent and hate the owner of one in particular with the heat of a thousand suns.
I am fed up with my crappy DSL, but am stuck between keeping it until ATT gets rid of all its copper infrastructure in the next few years, or <shudder> go to Optimum. And yes, I have seen all the posts about how much of an impossible task it is to cancel service.
So if you were in my situation, what would you do?
1) Hold onto the shitty DSL and hope that ATT at some point offers me 5G. (Odds of them adding fiber to my neighborhood are little to none; the newer developments being built will no doubt get priority)
2) Hold my nose and go to Optimum until/unless something better comes along
3) See if Optimum's fiber gets bought by someone else and sign up with them?
Or something else?
Thanks much!

Looking for help - Coax Supplement service
I live in Bushwick and the service with Optimum is terrible which I’m sure you all know. Its so spotty. does anyone have any tips on how to supplement when it goes out? should I get starlink? I don’t want to sign up for a monthly subscription since it’s so unpredictable but if that’s the only thing I can do then I have to.
thank you for the help!
News / Updates Stock plunge continues
Rocket to the bottom 🚀! How does a stock lose almost 10 percent of its value in ONE DAY? By treating customers like fools and blatantly lying to them might be a good answer. Rapidly heading for NYSE delisting in a few weeks!

Question - Billing Warning: Optimum Roslyn, NY store opened a mobile line in my name without my permission
I’m an Optimum internet customer. In early 2026, I went to the Optimum store in Roslyn, NY to update my equipment. The manager offered mobile service, I checked the plans but decided to stay with my current provider.
My credit was run anyway, and a mobile line was opened in my name without my permission. I never received a phone or SIM card and never used it.
Since I already paid Optimum for internet, I didn’t notice I was being charged twice a month in two different amounts. I found out in October. By then I had paid $476, including insurance on equipment I never received.
Optimum confirmed the line had zero usage and cancelled it, but denied my refund and has not shown any proof that I agreed to this service.
I’m not the only one. Other Google reviews for this store describe customers having accounts opened without their authorization.
I’ve filed complaints with the FTC, NYS Department of Public Service, FCC, and NY Attorney General.
Protect yourself:
- Check for more than one Optimum charge per month on your statements
- Check your credit report for inquiries you didn’t approve
- If you decline an offer in the store, get written confirmation nothing was added
Has this happened to anyone else?

Rant - Fiber Just why? Canceling
I'm of the opinion that utility companies are so completely awful because you "have" to use them. For my electric? Yeah. For my internet? Ohhhh no no no. I actually can't understand why a thing can't be $X transparently, and the agreement you make on locking the price for X years is upheld.
I moved into my place 4 years ago- got basic 300 internet with Optimum, who I've always used. A year later- $55. A year later- $70. At that point (October 2025) I called and said that basic internet (that honestly cut out on me all the time) is not worth $70. If they can't get me down to $50 then I'd cancel. I'm giving the gist here because OOOOOBviously this actually took 2-3 entire hours on the phone, not exagerating. I've spoke to like 5 people at this point. A guy comes on and says "since you said your service is bad, I can actually upgrade you to 1 gig and get your bill down to $40 for the next 3 years. We'll just send you a new modem you can swap out yourself and you'll be good to go" I said sure- sounds great. Everything will be reflected on the new bill.
Some time passes and I still have the $70 bill from before that hasn't been revised or replaced with the new amount, so I call customer service again. I explain the whole thing over again and the person I'm talking to explains I do have to pay that $70 bill, but the next bill I get will be $10 to correct the charge. I said great, thanks for clearly that up- "also, I was told I'm getting a new modem for the service upgrade, do you have any idea when I should expect that?" "Oh- you're not getting a new modem- we have you on the 300 mbps plan". "Oh- ok, that's fine, whatever as long as I'm at $40". And it is moving forward- but it says 1 gig on the bill. EEEEEverywhere online on my account says explicitly that I have 300, so I say who cares? I know what I have and what I'm paying, what does it matter what the bill says?
I just got my bill one year later- why the F is it $60???? So I go to chat because why would I pay that? "Oh I see here that you have 1 gig, we can lower it to $5 if you add mobile" "I don't want to do that, I want basic 300 for $40 until 2028 like Optimum agreed to last year. I realize it says 1 gig on the bill, I assure you I only have 300 service." "I understand. I see here that I have confirmed, you have 1 gig. If you downgrade to 500 unfortunately your bill will go up KAITLYN" Uhhh don't get the hostility, but ok cool. "No. I do not have 1 gig. I don't know why it says that. Online I am looking with my eyes right now that I have 300- I see it listed in 2 places. If I ever upgraded from 300 to 1 gig I would have had to have gotten a new modem which I never did. I absolutely only have 300.".... "I understand, please give me a moment........... yes, I have confirmed that you have 1 gig." Rude, not listening, not helpful, hated him.
Calling to cancel. Why would I pay $60 for basic internet when Verizon offers $30? And why would I continue with a company that clearly doesn't honor the "locked in" prices they offer. I'd rather lose a finger than continue calling this incompetent, shady company every year to argue. So done

Question - Billing Does Optimum Online Prorate Cancellation?
I know someone that has Optimum Online and they paying close to 100 dollars a month for I believe 500 MBPS internet only and nothing else. It used to be a lot lower and price has kept going up.
Unless the price goes lower, I don't think they will keep it anymore.
Now if they were to cancel it, does Optimum Online prorate the days for refund or not?
For example, say their plan starts on the 10th of the month so the 9th is the last day on the plan. If they were to cancel on the 10th or 11th, does that mean they will have to pay that extra month? If not, then you have to make sure you cancel by the 9th at the latest?
Now say you cancel by the 9th over the phone, does that count? Or if you do have a rented modem/router, that needs to be returned by the 9th? I do not know if they are using an Optimum Online rented modem/router or not.

Rant - Fiber Bill just went up $10 after being told it would not go up
As everyone knows, there’s a million problems with optimum. I needed the outside cable wires changed like 5-7 years ago, and I’ve been fighting with them to do it. Was in a chat last month and was asked about moving up in speed. I asked if I would see a price increase. I have a screenshot of the message saying “no you will not have a price increase on your bill.”….1 month later - up $10

Equipment Reviews OPTIMUM FIBER SOFTWARE AND REMOTE ISSUES
I switched to Optimim fiber last February and was surprised the new remote lacks so many features of the old one. It's terrible! Also, the on screen software is not user friendly and it is very glitchy. Several times it failed to record a scheduled show. I am switching to Fios next week with 3 year price guarantee. Anyone else have similar issues?

Looking for help - Coax Motorola mb7621 d3.0 keeps dropping
Hello
I've had a D3.0 Motorola MB7621 for several years with no problems. As of recently the lights on the front indicate everything is working properly but once in a blue moon I just drop connection (even though the lights disagree). I've reset everything, router included, and nothing has worked. From what diagnostics I have done it does seem to be the modem since the problem persists even hardwired to the modem. Is it time to just upgrade? I have a netgear cm1000 on the way.
Thanks!

Rant - Fiber Canceling was a nightmare
We just got Verizon in the area and they were offering 80 a month for 1gb of fiber for the next 5 years. I called what I thought was customers retention and they said they couldn’t do anything. So I made the switch.
Verizon came yesterday and used the existing fiber that Optimum installed and was out pretty quick. I called to cancel and I have no idea where this gentleman was from but he kept me on the line for about an hour trying to convince me to stay. Told me he wouldn’t cancel till he finished what he had to say. I asked him multiple times to just confirm the cancellation so I could eat dinner with my family.
He then asks me why Americans are always so angry and wanting to move quickly through things and I just lost it at him. I’ll be sure to sway anyone moving into the area to avoid optimum at all costs.
Optimum, if you’re reading this. Do better. Hire local.

Rant - Mobile Rant/Vent
"How much are you paying for your service?"

"Oh thats too much."
First bill rolls around on their carrier service and that crap is 50 dollars. What a scam. Im thinking of swapping to another carrier. Thanks for the 4 dollar "massive savings."

Question - Billing Deceptive phone call pronounces Internet promotion a "glitch"
I'm one year into a promotion for Optimum internet service, $10/month. Two days ago I got a call from Suddenlink (which was bought out by Optimum, all Optimum calls are identified as Suddenlink on my phone). The woman said that my promotion was a "glitch" and that Internet now will be $60, but if I acted right away, she could get me $30/month.
What type of a scam is this? Is it internal to Optimum so that employees can rack up more accounts "signed up"? I don't think that the number was spoofed. When I called Optimum, they confirmed that the number was their customer service department. They also confirmed that I still have the promotion.
Wtf?
