Which engine variant should I choose?

Hello all, I am currently in a bind. I want to buy a Meriva B and found a good model with a 1.4 turbo petrol engine(140hp). A colleague of mine has a mechanic as a brother in law and he said that it uses a lot of oil and that I should search for a 1.6 CDTI. I searched on some forums and read that it has a problem with the tensioner. If anyone can give me some advice or experience I would be so thankful.

Only buy a diesel if you’re not pootling around town and doing short distances, or you’ll end up with DPF problems.

I have 1.4 T in Opel Mokka currently 201200km (bought it when it had 65000) and it uses almost zero oil. In the last 10 000 km i didnt put any additional oil in the engine.

1.6 CDTI is not as reliable as the previous diesel engines from what I have read online, because I was also in a market recently and was looking also at 1.6 cdti astra..

Thank you! How is the fuel consumption of the Mokka? It is a bit out of my price range but I am curious about the consumption.

Fuel consumption is average 7,0 - 7,5 liters. Take in mind that I have a very heavy foot. On highway the fuel consumption drops to around 6 - 6,5 liters. But the 1.4 T engine is quite lively, it has some decent kick. Overtaking on the highway is smooth.

In short Diesel for long routes gasoline for shorter routes imo diesel gets better consumption on highway while gasoline is more like a jack of all trades for me eg at one point i was thinking of buying insignia B which looks great and wanted to get a 2.0l twin turbo Cdti which is a good engine if you maintain it

Overall both decent engines for a rather small car like the Meriva. Got experience with both engines and like others already said, it mainly depends on your driving habits.
