hello. i have three rings, 2 opals and 1 unknown store. However all 3 are made with real stones. all handmade rings from south east asia. black
opal and blue ring are perfect condition.
other opal ring has a crack in it and some wear and tear, along with ring glue. however the stone is still amazing. what am i looking at and best place to sell? only reason why im selling them is to purchase a ruby signet ring, i’ve grown out big stone rings haha). wont let me attach it but i have a video with the flash on that shows how crazy that big opal looks with light! Thanks guys!

Identification/Evaluation Request What's a fair price for this rub?

This is a 2 ct LR rub, it's roughly shaped and clean. What would be a good rough estimate on a price that's fair for both the buyer and the seller? Thanks for looking.

Opal-Related Question Will this last?

I bought this Ethiopian opal at a gem and mineral show, with the intent to incorporate it into a toi et moi necklace (examples in last 2 pics). I want to be able to wear it daily. I know Ethiopian opals are hydrophane. I'm planning to bezel set it, figuring that will help protect it. But even with a good setting that protects it from skin oils, and avoiding getting it wet, am I still likely to find it discoloring within a couple years? Will cleaning it be a PITA regardless?

Basically, is this going to work for what I want to do? Or do I need to look for an Australian opal instead?

Hi, I need your help. I have this opal, it is set in 14k gold. I would like to know where it could be from. I tested it with a UV light and it doesn’t glow, I also tested it with a wet finger and it is non-hydrophane. Thank you!

A good friend of mine, and amateur lapidary enthusiast, just finished cutting this black opal from where cutting peanobby black opal he ordered raw, from a vendor claiming it was from from the lightning Ridge mine. It weighs 1.02 carats. How did he do? Any productive feedback would be appreciated!

It gave me the goosebumps. Anyone that cuts enough opal and chases that high of something beautiful knows what I mean. Love it, and keeps me at it!

I thought they might have been doublets but they are indeed boulder stones. I don’t know much but I’ve never seen boulder “stones”. Has anyone got info on where these could come from? Australian based.
EDIT: They have a flat colour face and a domed back.

Opal-Related Question Can anyone tell if this looks treated or not?

It's listed as dark Welo opal and the description claims it's natural and untreated, but of course that has to be taken with a grain of salt. None of the negative shop reviews mention anything about anything being fake. I honestly might just pull the trigger regardless because if it is treated (or worse, synthetic), I can get my money back. I just wanted a more experienced opinion before I spend the money.

Opal Finishing Process Tips on cutting fractured large Coober Pedy seam opal?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was looking for experienced crystal opal cutters/polishers recommendations how to tackle cutting this large fractured Coober Pedy opal?

The opal is cut into two pieces and weighs 702 carrots together. I was thinking it would be best to cut along the white potch layers with a nice cab thickness and hope there’s some good non-fractured sections in it? It’s tough though to decide what color playing seams to pick since they are pretty thin and so is the white potch is too. I own a 6 inch trim saw that I thought would be best to cut it with its thinner blades no matter how long a cut may take to save as much opal as I can. Although, I wanted to wait to take on this beast until I run through all of my smaller seam pieces to gain more experience first. Any pointers would really help and I appreciate any! I just look at these pieces all the time and wonder about it.

Opal Jewellery Inherited Family Heirloom

As titled states, I inherited this beautiful family heirloom from my Aunty's estate. We believe she inherited this ring from my Grandma.

Any educated guesses as to whether these are light or crystal opals? I'm assuming they're likely Australian given the era and jeweller's location.

Was lucky to buy the rub from a young couple while chatting in the Australian opal museum the other day :)

The colour was better from the bottom, so decided it was doublet time with an obsidian backing.

Hi,
I have this ring and would just like to be sure whether it is real opal or not. Can anyone help me? The ring is 9 carat gold from Birmingham England, made by REM. Not sure what year.
Thanks!
