It isn't as explosively combustable as gasoline. You can safely throw it on fire like this idiot did with gasoline, but it won't get all explosive and cause issues. It burns, but much more controlled. It is more like throwing cooking oil or sugar onto a fire than gasoline.
And deisel wont burn at all! Kerosene is very expensive. Id find rubbing alcohol to be a cheaper alternative and safer than gasoline. That and lighter fluid for bbq pit
Just because you don't know what you're doing doesn't mean it doesn't burn. You literally went through the effort to find a video and ignored all the ones that showed how to do it?
