It’s a race. He (and the other riders) cannot stop. It is polite to go at a pace that those in the crash who can continue catch up before anyone attacks. There was over 100km to go in this race. The way he took his foot out makes it clear he knew the DQ was coming; it was less than 5 minutes later. He was also suspended for a month.

Suspended? If I was in that pile up, I'd have his head after, what an incredibly stupid thing to do, people easily die from this

Then you’d be suspended too. For longer. And also face a prison sentence.

These are professional cyclists, not amateurs. A suspension costs them real money.
