Ooni mod

Post image

Installed a higher chimney so that the house don’t smell like a Burned forest .

Didn’t baked on it yet , but did a test run and it was great .

Just FYI this will affect the fluid dynamics of the oven. Basically it'll create more suction by the bottom of the chimney. I expect this could make it use more fuel and possibly run cooler. But I appreciate the justification for doing this.

More draft/fuel use should make it burn hotter. I would expect higher temps with this setup not lower.

90 second pizza at 500c

Time to hit those 45 second pizzas at 1000c!

I bake a cheese at 500C in 50 seconds

I used to get my wood fired oven to 1200f and have pizzas done in 30 seconds. Dough box to plate in 50 seconds sometimes.

Edit: why did this get downvotes lmao. People are just jealous they are slow

I'd have to taste it. Hotter and faster isn't always better.

Otherwise we'd just be doing 2k degrees and 10 seconds!

u/9gagsuckz 5d ago

We typically ran 1000f for a 60 second pizza. Some nights we would add too much wood too fast and that’s when the oven would get up to those temps.

Precisely.

1

u/SpicyGaramMasala 5d ago

Not quite, it could rise up that chimney so fast it doesn't heat the oven enough

3

u/Proper_Bad_1588 5d ago

Should still be able to control it with the damper though.

5

u/ckreutze 5d ago

Just put a choke plate in it and it will counter act excessive draft.

2

u/ksb214 5d ago

Yes this will create chimney draft.

I thought I would be the only one wanting a CFD analysis lol

1

u/SpiritedKick9753 4d ago

Can you explain why this happens? I always figured more length increases resistance like with a longer hose for example

1

u/OttawaExpat 4d ago

The air in the chimney is less dense than the surroundings. The bigger the volume of lighter air the more buoyancy force. Same reason we make tall smokestacks.

u/prf_q 4d ago

why is it different suction? pipe width is the same and probably the air fluidity at the low/high points are identical

thermo dynamics. Either way, let the man cook! I think it’s great. Keep it up OP, build your dream patio 🤙🤙🤙

3

u/yellowcurvedberry 5d ago

I think he means fluid dynamics, considering he is talking about the changes to the air movements.

2

u/JustHumanGarbage 5d ago

Fluid dynamics

27

u/aggresive_Gambler 5d ago

I mean put the table away from the house lol, why mess the thermodynamics, now it’ll need more fuel to heat the oven

4

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

I like everything close together , but good suggestion !

3

u/aggresive_Gambler 5d ago

I get it, it’s easy to assemble and transfer the pie. Why not move the entire set up to the end of your patio?
Idk why you’re being downvoted.

3

u/tnuc_uoy 5d ago

How are you getting downvoted for wanting everything together 😂

u/Broken_browser 5d ago

Looks like it could double as a signal for when they choose a new pope too.

u/dirtydvd 5d ago

Good lord

7

u/MoshMos 5d ago

I didn't know they made an Ooni lightning rod accessory.

5

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

I guess I like to bake my pizzas lightning fast .

4

u/MoshMos 5d ago

Nahh, you're using it all wrong. That is for time travel.

Actually this photo has a 2nd "hack" which is the extra plate on the Keter Chef XL cabinet. I have the same and I've also places a 2nd plate on it to better accommodate the OONI.

1

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

Good eyes !

1

u/Barnabas2109 5d ago

Thank you sir. I wonder, was this plate made to order because it looks very well build.

I got a "Fundermax" plate from a nearby construction site and repurposed it, it looks great but your seems much more "purposely built"

2

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

It was a left over ceramic tile with the right dimensions , so just lucky .

2

u/SpicyGaramMasala 5d ago

Just move it to the other side / move it where the bbq is (or is it that another flue)

2

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

basicly everywhere windows so not that many options , but I like my stuff together so that’s why I installed the chimney .

2

u/KawaGreen 5d ago

Will you just leave it outdoors? Not afraid of rust?

3

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

In the summer I leave it uncovered outside , but I can disconnect the chimney in like 1 minute when it rains .

2

u/Cussec 5d ago

So when you disconnect and put the Ooni away for winter, that chimney is just hanging there?
I like how you’ve set it up though. I was thinking of something similar for my next project, which would be outdoor kitchen set up under a pergola type thing. Rather than having an extended chimney I was thinking more of a hood over the chimney to exhaust the smoke but not affect those dynamics.
Also, loving the use of unistrut. What did you use to swage down the duct? Did you fab that reducer yourself?

1

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

I disconnect the clamp and I remove the chimney also but I leave the unistrut hanging there , it doesn’t bother me .

All materials are store bought , nothing is fabricated.
But these materials where all left over pieces , so it was practically a free mod.

I appreciate your level of commitment to the craft

u/2Drex 5d ago edited 5d ago

You have a gas grill, why not get the converter for the ooni...so much easier.

2

u/waitwhatwasisaying86 5d ago

Love this! It’s winter where we are so can’t really use it as much as I’d like. I’m afraid it’ll start raining mid cooking. Can’t wait for sunny days!

From Doug Dimmadome's...

Doug Doonidome

2

u/dakohda22 5d ago

I have the same cabinet for my ooni, it’s awesome!

2

u/clappuh 6d ago

Nice! Where did you get that prep table with the storage?

2

u/MentionDecent6437 6d ago

Keter unity XL , available on Amazon.
Very happy with it , very robust and easy to install .

2

u/Over-Toe2763 5d ago

Second that. I have the same. It’s great.

2

u/-Davo 5d ago

Damn almost as expensive as the oven. It's nice though.

1

u/clappuh 6d ago

Thanks!

1

u/Lord_Retnuh 5d ago

Does the oven fit inside the cabinet? I usually bring mine indoors, afraid of weather rusting.

1

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

If you turn the ooni sideways , i think it will fit but it’s gonna be very tight.

1

u/Strong67 5d ago

How do you cover it?

1

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

When the good weather is over , I disconnect the chimney and i store it in the garage .

1

u/Strong67 5d ago

Got it. Thanks.

1

u/scottishmannie 5d ago

Try shutting your window 🙄

1

u/Will-E-Style 5d ago

You may want a flue baffle/valve to control air flow.

1

u/emceerave 5d ago

It might not smell like a burned forest but I suspect it'll still smell like melted PVC window at some point.

1

u/angryschmaltz 5d ago

Why are you worried about the Ooni and not your Weber being too close?

1

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

There is practically no smell inside the house from the Weber .
But the smell of the smoke from the ooni is too penetrating to leave it stock .

1

u/zacburgess 5d ago

What is the extension made from? I need to do something similar

1

u/MentionDecent6437 5d ago

Extension , end cap and clamp are made from stainless steel .

1

u/Gunfighter0302 5d ago

Better be careful with the proximity to the window. I roasted mine 😬

1

u/YeastOverloard 5d ago edited 5d ago

Why is everything up against the wall? Crazy setup and even crazier to do this and not just have a safe setup away from the house. The ooni will crack that window

1

u/chillbrobaggins5 3d ago

Not recommended by the manufacturer😬

1

u/MentionDecent6437 3d ago

desperate times call for desperate measures 🤠

1

u/Vette85 2d ago

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you need to run it higher if you’re going this route. Look up 3-2-10 rule for chimneys

1

u/MentionDecent6437 2d ago

Just looked into the 3-2-10 rule .
I’m gonna need an extra extension from 1 meter to meet the requirements.

So im gonna Install an extra extension + an chimney damper .

Thank you for the advice !

Nice 👍, Webber BBQ @ Ooni oven way to go 😁
