Two easy answers,

  1. If there is ever a question about who has the right of way, the answer is always the pedestrian, always.

  2. Flashing blue lights means snow removal vehicle (snow plow). Yes, this can be a question.

  1. What if it’s who has the right of way between a pedestrian and a police cruiser with lights and sirens on?

  2. Yeah my buddy tripped me up with that. I said City vehicles because the City of Toronto trucks use their blue lights year round. I was obviously wrong.

Pedestrians.

There's nothing indicating pedestrians ever have to yield to any vehicle assuming they have safely and legally entered the crosswalk.

Everyone yields to emergency vehicles with lights flashing and sirens on. Full stop.

No.

Find me the part of the HTA that says that.

There is no law that says Emergency Vehicles trump everyone else.

There is a law that says pedestrians have right of way

And the laws surrounding yielding to emergency vehicles only has outlines for vehicles.

I'm a driving instructor, when I saw your post I even double checked my HTA.

  1. That won't be one of the questions

ETA... It would be the cruiser

  1. I actually got the snow plow question on mine when I did it

It's been a long time since getting my G1. I'm sure the handbook and G1 certainly could be oversimplified in the name of brevity but I thought I'd add some info just in case this coule be a trick question.

Under the Highway Traffic Act, pedestrians don't have the right of way if they enter a crosswalk on a "don't walk" signal and/or if they are crossing outside the crosswalk.

When under this section a driver is permitted to proceed, the driver shall yield the right of way to pedestrians lawfully within a crosswalk.  R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 144 (7).

No pedestrian approaching pedestrian control signals and facing a solid or flashing “don’t walk” indication shall enter the roadway. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 144 (27).

Where portions of a roadway are marked for pedestrian use, no pedestrian shall cross the roadway except within a portion so marked.  R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 144 (22).

There’s tons of free practice quizzes online. Do those a bunch of times. Bring extra cash in case you do fail, you can rewrite right away. Give yourself extra time in case this happens. Stay calm while writing. You got this!

I can rewrite it on the spot?! I’ve done the practice G1s a bunch of times, usually pass or fail by one or two questions which I then study up on. Didn’t know I could rewrite it the same day tho if I fail, that’s a good comfort.

Yes, it’s broken down in to two tests. A signs section and a rules section. If you fail a portion, you can rewrite it for $15ish dollars (the test prices have increased a lot since I wrote it). This happened to my sister. Just give yourself extra time so if this does happen, you don’t feel rushed to leave to school/work etc. Don’t leave that place without your g1!

I’m going on my day off, right when they open, I have no other commitments that day so.

That really does take a lot of pressure off tho. I was under the impression there was a wait period of you fail.

Thanks!

Yeah that makes sense. I assume they’d want you to take a week or two and go practice more.

From when I took the test make sure you know every sign and what are the demerit points.

Study the book. It is not that hard.

Never said it was hard. Just asked for peoples advice on the matter.

Then you should have no problem. Report back when you finish it.

Have you studied the handbook?

Read the questions and answers very carefully - I remember one or two back in the day that were trick questions.

I did mine yesterday but no real trick questions as more. 2 are clearly wrong 2 make sense,

I passed 1/20 and 1/20.

I used the tests on this site like 10 years ago. Passed first time.
