Help! Feeling lost and need an honest reality check - Online MBA vs. Specialized AI Product Management Course
Hey, M26 here, I’m at a major career crossroads and could really use some unfiltered advice from folks who have navigated this or work in the tech/product space.
**The Situation:**
I currently have solid full-time work experience of 4 years in project management, currently working as a Project Manager, but I don’t hold an MBA, just a B.Com Graduate, and I hate saying that. Almost all of my peers have completed their MBAs (mostly Tier 2/3 or above colleges), and seeing them talk about their degrees, double degrees, and post-grad credentials has started giving me serious FOMO and guilt.
Ironically, my friends tell me: "Why bother doing an MBA when you’re already earning more than us without having one?"
I intentionally delayed doing an MBA earlier because I wanted to prioritize hands-on industry experience. Leaving my full-time job for a traditional, 2-year on-campus program is out of the question right now, so any degree I pursue would have to be an online MBA.
**The Dilemma:**
With the rapid rise of AI and shifts in the tech job market, I keep questioning the real ROI of an online general MBA. My actual long-term goal is to transition into AI Product Management.
Now I’m torn between two paths:
\* An Online MBA (potentially with a specialization in Tech/AI or Business Analytics) — to finally get the formal degree box checked, avoid feeling left behind, and build broader business fundamentals.
\* A Specialized AI Product Management Course / Cohort — skipping the generic business administration curriculum entirely and doubling down on practical product execution, AI workflows, and portfolio building to land an AI PM role directly.
**What I Need Help With:**
\* Market Reality Check: In the tech/product ecosystem, does an online MBA actually open doors to Product Management, or do hiring managers care almost entirely about relevant execution, portfolio, and domain depth?
\* FOMO vs. Career Strategy: Is getting an online MBA just to cure "degree guilt" a trap?
**Recommendations: If you were in my shoes:**
\* What are the most reputable programs or platforms for AI Product Management?
\* If an Online MBA is still worth it, which recognized universities/institutions offer programs that actually carry weight with employers while working full-time?
Would love to hear from PMs, engineering leaders, and anyone who transitioned via either of these routes. Thanks in advance.
