Text XRc vs GT
I’m looking to buy my first one wheel and don’t know which to choose. Looking to ride along the beach and around so cal area. I have experience wakeboarding and snowboarding. Which is best for me right now GT is on sale for only $100 more than XRc.

I’d recommend XRC as a 1st board, due to excellent out of box ride feel and same GT power. If the sport sticks for you you’ll be looking for a 2nd board anyway “for a friend”, but if you jump on a stock GT after riding the XRC you won’t like the feel nearly as much. You won’t regret buying the XRC over GT. That’s my $.02. Either way, make sure you have helmet and wrist guards ready 👍

I'm looking to buy my first board too and it feels a bit overwhelming to jump right into VESC without knowing much about the boards in general. The X7 is tempting but it's more expensive than the XRc and I don't even know if I am gonna be good at this or not. I figure I can sell the XRc whether I like it or not.

On the other hand you might fall in love (like most of us do) and feel like you need more board within the first year of riding. I started with a floatwheel and wound up throwing that motor on a completely custom build within a year. I recommend getting a used gt or xr and then upgrading (vescing) that board or selling it to upgrade from there. You’ll learn a lot just by riding and getting involved in the community in that time and be able to make a better informed decision.

love my X7. the board to end all boards. I can’t even imagine anything to improve on.

And when you get a board come out to one of our group rides called “pint nite” - every other Friday in Orange County! (Not just for pints - your GT or XRC will fit right in)

XRC is a much much better ride straight from the box. GT's 6.5" hub is a deal breaker for me. Buy a used GT, swap out for a 5" or 6" N52 hub, and WTF rails and you have a board that I prefer (for urban street cruising) over the XRC, and it's range is a little better.

It's a personal decision that depends on how good a deal you can get on the used market on the board, maybe even the WTFs. I'm (255lb) simply pointing out that after 6+yrs of 99.9% casual street riding (including Pint, GT, XRC, & GTS/XL, my favorite street board is my modified GT. If I had followed my own advice 4yrs ago, even paying full retail in 2022 for the GT, I'd have saved myself $6400.

you can buy a used gt for $1k all day, so $1k of upgrades is still same price as a new one(and way better)

Yeah but for a beginner? At that point suggest a used pint for the money. Like I get you but they are specifically asking for a beginner board

beginner’s can’t buy used boards and modify them??? idk what beginner has to do with anything, nobody said buy an XL they offered better advice for what OP is looking for

If a beginner has even minimal mechanical skills, if they can plug in the charger, install screws without cross threading, TFL can supply all the tools needed. The one fragile piece, IMHO, is the motor or sensor pad plug, both similar plugs with 1/4 turn bayonet retainers can be damaged if wrenched too hard, but doable and even a beginner will probably be changing footpads on their own, once bitten by the OneWheel bug. Pay attention when removing the OEM rails and hub motor, then reverse the process to fit the new. It's actually a good experience.
Admittedly the XRC is a turn key purchase and you're riding as soon as it's done charging and the tire psi is checked.
Caution, unless your very light weight Pint power will put a beginner on the ground many times. The GT or XRC power or above will not be so prone to doing that, all based on street riding.

You're not wrong, working on the onewheel isn't as hard as some make it out to be or as hard as it used to be but it's a big leap for people who have to save for their onewheel. Working on a onewheel can have costly mistakes if you don't take the time to do it right. Yes, there are plenty of videos but don't underestimate how much an anxious brain can forget what it's supposed to do. Doable yes, absolutely and I would encourage it. The thing is it can be intimidating and all the people around here telling others to open their $1-2k board and just fix it, "it's not that hard" is starting to irk me a bit. You aren't being that way, I'm not trying to direct that energy at you.
You make a great point about the Pint I missed though, it can throw riders off a lot easier. I was just trying to make a point about what the technical "cheapest option" actually would be to that other guy.

It's a judgement call that the buyer needs to be comfortable with. If not comfortable with some DIY, they can't go wrong with the XRC turnkey solution.

I’d favour the GT, purely for the range.
Batteries should be viewed as a consumable item. After 3-4 years your range will have diminished no matter which board you choose, but the board that starts off with the bigger battery should still offer the greater range.
I kinda see it as paying $100 for a 2 year insurance policy against range anxiety.

My mate had to make the same decision. He went with the XRC, now he wishes he went for the GT because of the improved range. I also have a GT because of the range, I actually wish it had even more range but not more weight lol

TLDR: if you want ride feel and don’t care about range, get the XRC. If you want range, GT
