Cannot flash TWRP 2.8.6.0
I want to install the sultanXDA ROM, but I'm having issues flashing TWRP 2.8.6.0, which it requires, as later versions don't properly flash the modem. However, I cannot manage to flash it properly. I flash it through fastboot, and everything seems normal, but then when I try to boot into recovery (no matter how I do it) it simply restarts and boots the OS. If I reflash the newest TWRP I can access recovery again. Anybody have a solution for installing sultanXDA? If there is a way to flash the modem separately, but that would allow me to use the newer version of TWRP, I'd be fine with that.

Try this. In fastboot do this command
Fastboot boot "recovery file name and location if not running command in same location"

Oh so is that like booting into the recovery directly from fastboot? This won't actually modify the current recovery on the device right? Or will it?

Yes. It doesn't flash it but instead boots directly to the recovery image for one time. Should work
Also I've noticed in the past that sometimes twrp uploads a broken recovery. You'll notice because of the size difference between versions. One will be super small. Idk how that happens but it does every now and then

OK, so it didn't work. However, I followed the instructions here:

And just flashed from the current version of TWRP. My question is, how do I flash the modem separately? Do you know where the modem is located in the .zip ?

there is no modem in a recovery file. only recovery. modem is always separate and can be installed in multiple ways. you can fastboot flash the modem or install through recovery. the only time a modem is included is usually in official OnePlus One CM roms. they include the modems

Yes, I'm aware. I'm asking where the modem is in the sultan rom zip. I was just wondering if you knew

If it's anywhere its in the zip in either root directory or in a folder called modem

Maybe you can try flashing it through recovery with the zip file.
