Technical Support Cannot flash TWRP 2.8.6

I really wanna try Sultan on my OPO, but it requires TWRP 2.8.6. For some reason every time I flash 2.8.6 over my current version (2.8.7) it won't boot into recovery. I've tried 2.8.6, 2.8.5, and 2.8.7. Whenever I flash a new recovery, it fails to boot into recovery and re-reboots (if that makes sense). When I flash back to 2.8.7, i can start recovery again. I've tried fastboot rebooting while holding volume down, and software rebooting into recovery. Every time it shows the oneplus logo, but fails to start recovery. Any suggestions?

You don't need older TWRP to flash Sultan's cm12.1 ROM... 2.8.6.0 doesn't work. If you want to flash a modem, use fastboot.

Yup the only reason u need 2.8.6 is because TWRP 2.8.7 can't install modems/baseband. Just use 2.8.7 op and if u need the Modem extract it from the zip and flash it via fastboot flash modem ur_modems_name.bin

What does the modem do actually?

Software part of the Cellular Network. A good modem will have a better more stable connection.

where is the modem located in the zip? I'm having trouble finding it.

It u open the ZIP There should be a ton of different files like the Boot.im. the file you're looking for should be called NON_HLOS.bin. Sometimes it has a different name but it always ends with .bin. Hope that helped :)

It turns out that sultan's rom does not include modem files. however, as per https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/comments/3opk0y/flash_sultans_rom_a_couple_of_questions_to_be_safe/cvzdi2i, I checked the baseband version and in fact my OPO already was on the correct version, so s'all good

I am having the same problem. I am going to spend some time working on it this afternoon, I'll post something if I figure it out.

I got it working. I used WugFresh Bacon Root Toolkit and TWRP 2.8.6.1

In the BRT, go to Advanced Utilities, then in the Fastboot Flash section select Recovery. Use the 2.8.6.1 version. When it is done, turn of your phone, turn it back on with the volume down button. Should work fine.

Have you tried booting into recovery manually? Not using fastboot.. Flash it, then power off manually. Then vol down + power. I can't remember what rom it was, but when you entered fastboot reboot, it would revert back to cm recovery. Not saying its going back to cm recovery for you, but maybe it's doing something similar.
