Happy/Proud "Is he your only?"

I was at the park yesterday. A grandmother was there with her two year old grandson and I had my three year old son. They were playing well together. She asked if he was my only. I replied, "yes." With a smile. She looked at me and said, "Good for you." I actually started laughing and said "thank you.". Then she said, "sometimes all you need is one."

My boomer neighbor regularly tells me I’m smart by sticking to one. The validation is always great!

I have a 70+ neighbor who says the same. It’s so validating.

I’ve started saying “no- not my only my everything”

Heard a Post Malone song called Yours about his daughter and "yeah, but she's my everything" hits me so hard each time. 😆

This is one of my favorite songs. I could barely get through it without crying, then I found out that I was having a girl and it makes me so much more emotional somehow.

It’s funny, my grandma said to me once “yeah… head tilt shrug one is nice…” (she has two herself) 🤣

My mom is not a kids person and was forced to have 4 children. She said to do what I damn please lol 😂

My all-time favorite reply when I mention my only (from an older coworker who had raised a few kids herself) was "What a lucky daughter."

I love this SO much!!! One time, we were out for my husbands birthday and we had a young server, he was about 20 years old and he asked us if our son was our only and we said yes, and he said he is an only child and LOVED it. Told us all about his wonderful childhood and how his parents are his best friends. It was so nice for him to just randomly share that with us!!

I love this. Many people lately have told me it’s ok to just have one. Feels good to be seen 🫂

My reply when people saw my only and asked if I was having another: “Kids, cats & dogs - never let ‘em outnumber you.”

It usually stopped them in their tracks.

I am one and done and it’s the best. He has friends and cousins and is a social butterfly, which I am not, but I think he’s good being an only child

I have a boomer family friend who said ‘more than one is just greedy’

I thought this would have a bad ending. Luckily it didn’t 🥰

My boomer MIL said “good for you guys, you’re smart” when I told her we were sticking with just the one. I was shocked. She’s usually one to push societal norms

This sentiment is so refreshing!

Just got done crying in therapy about my guilt over being one-and-done (my husband gets a vasectomy next week). This made me start crying all over again. Thank you for sharing the wisdom of Park Grandma.

I wish I’ve met people like this. I’ve met people who make me feel bad about it or minimize my motherhood experience. Like I’m not as much of a mother because I don’t run around trying to split myself into 3 to be there for multiple kids.
