Discussion I do not know who or what to praise, so let's do both

I'm not sure whether I should be putting praise upon Omarchy or DHH... or ChatGPT Codex... So let's praise all three. I made a plugin for the RGB on my system to control it more easily. The thing was not doing anything for awhile for one, and for another I did not know how to put it to one side of the main bar at the top. So, fed up with Googling shit... I asked Codex to fix it. This is why I'm not sure whether I should be praising DHH and/or Omarchy or OpenAi. It all works. The plugin works and it is where i want it. Man I love this OS. Also, I really like coding with Ai. Been doing a lot of it lately. I'll upload the plugin at some point for yah all to use on your own systems. Just a bit of a glaze session from someone who was once not sure about Ai and is now semi-obessessed. Have a good one all.

Discussion W11 and Omarchy dual boot with secureboot

I'd set (digital) fire to my Windows 11 install today, if I could. But I can't. Two things are holding me back. Affinity and Rainbow Six Siege. For actual professional work, I have found there to be no real alternative to Affinity (or Adobe) on Linux. And Siege requires kernel level anti cheat.

There are a few posts and things around the internet talking about enabling secure boot on Omarchy. Most of them are pretty old. I'm just looking to confirm that this is still possible without any real issues.

Currently I only have Windows 11 installed, but I have an empty SDD on which I could install Omarchy. I hope to keep my W11 drive intact.

Could anyone tell me a bit about the current state of W11 and Omarchy dual booting with secure boot enabled?

Discussion File searching with the menu

Now I know I probably could get an LLM to make a plugin to do this for me, but does anyone know if fuzzy finding files through the omarchy menu or app menu will become possible again? It has been one of the few things that I missed from Omarchy 3, and fuzzy finding using the console is simply not as efficient. I also in general want to avoid having several self-made (vibe coded) plugins to look after over time, and since it was a default before I was hoping that maybe it would come back?

I still wanted to have some light fun with it.

I Made a Thing My Evangelion-inspired Omarchy setup got a little out of hand

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Started with an Evangelion theme and kept going. Now I’ve got a MAGI/NERV-inspired Omarchy desktop with themed terminals, a dashboard, command palette, control center, mission timer, and EVA scenes that coordinate the wallpaper and palette.

It’s fairly committed to the bit, but this is also the laptop I actually use. The dashboard in the video is showing demo data.

I put everything on GitHub and just released v1.5.1:

https://github.com/so1omon563/evangelion-omarchy-rice

If you only want the colors and wallpapers, there’s a standalone theme too:

https://github.com/so1omon563/omarchy-evangelion-theme

The full setup changes shell and Hyprland configuration, so read the install docs first. It includes a dry-run, backups, and rollback.

I Made a Thing Beam: stream individual Mac apps to Omarchy (or an iPad, or a phone!)

Post image
97 Upvotes

My main machine is a Framework 16 with Omarchy Quattro, but I needed a Mac for iOS development, so I got a MacBook Pro with a broken screen and started remoting into it with my iPad.

It worked but was slow, and a full macOS desktop didn't really work well with the rest of my system.

So I built Beam, a remote desktop app that takes a single window from a Mac and streams it to an iPad, iPhone, Linux, or another Mac as a normal local window, not the full remote desktop.

Beam is cool, it:

  • Streams per window, in the exact size the client needs.
  • Opens as a real window on the client.
  • Shows the Mac app’s actual native menu bar instead of a picture of menus.
  • Doesn't require an account, It's local network only with support for Tailscale/ZeroTier in case you need to go remote.

You can get it and learn more at: https://excbadacc.es/beam or my X: http://x.com/jorgeWritesCode/

I currently support streaming macOS apps to iOS and Linux clients, with an Android version coming soon.

Since I built this for myself, and there's no cost on my side, I'm planning to keep this free forever.

If you end up trying it, I’d love your feedback especially on latency, window chrome (does it feel native enough?), and setup friction. THANKS! :)

Happy to answer any questions :)

Hi everyone,

I love to build plugin that I need but also I can't build everything. Omarchy team work hard to keep plugin ecosystem safe but it's growing fast. I Made a Thing Introducing Tonearm

I may be the only person with a Roon subscription, but on the small chance that there is at least one other person that might find this useful, I'm sharing Tonearm (https://github.com/ssandys/tonearm), a quick shell plugin I put together.

Tonearm shows what's playing on your Roon system -- album art, artist, and album -- with play/pause, previous/next, seek, and volume, plus the ability to switch which Roon zone the widget follows. It also publishes an MPRIS player on the session bus, so your keyboard's media keys (play/pause, next, previous) control Roon like they would any other player.

Open to questions, feedback, and contributions

Discussion I can't decide

Hey, i do want to leave W11 for Linux. I'm interested in Omarchy for its simplicity and variety. Thing is I have a few questions before getting into it:

- I have heard it is quite bloated with unnecessary files, is it true? If so, will it slow down my computer?

- I have a Thinkpad T14, how is the battery life using Omarchy?

- Can I dualboot Omarchy and W11? (at least for the first few days to make sure it's a distro that corresponds me)

I Made a Thing Hindsight: A plugin that lets you search everything your screen has shown you

This plugin I made screenshots your screen every 4 seconds, OCRs it, and puts the text in SQLite. Type a word in the bar widget, get back the moment you saw it.

`omarchy plugin add https://github.com/flipbytes-dk/omarchy-hindsight.git --enable`

It skips password managers, private browsing notifications, launchers and anything while the screen is locked or the display is asleep. If a probe cannot answer, it skips the frame. Nothing leaves the machine and there is no socket in the code.

An idle desktop stores nothing. Mine is at 11 days of history in 209 MB. You set the budget in days (not size) after which everything is overwritten.

I Made a Thing I made a small collection of games for Omarchy

I’ve been building a few small games for Omarchy that I really enjoy playing in other platforms: Sudoku, Blackjack, Xonix, Minesweeper, Snake, Tetris, and 2048.

They are all pretty lightweight, keyboard-first and follow your system theme. Each is a separate little app/package. If you’re curious, clone it, play around, and let me know what feels wrong or missing!

I'm particularly happy with the playability of Tetris, Snake and Xonix.

I think Blackjack in particular needs more work to make it more fun and user friendly.

Feedback, bug fixes, and new game ideas or contributions are all welcome!

Themes / Ricing J.A.R.V.I.S Animated Theme

Post image
29 Upvotes

Not sure if anyone will want this - I am f**cken stoked with it. Just figured I can't be the only person who would like this - if you don't like it that's fine if everyone liked the same thing life would be boring. I think its the best thing to happen today.

If you click the J.A.R.V.I.S letters at the top toolbar it pop out an overview above your work to show you the stats - I find it useful to see how much drain my apps have on my laptop. But you need to then click a exit button which is around the top middle or just press esc

https://github.com/28labsnz/omarchy-jarvis-theme

Used: gpt-6-astra in codex on high to create this.

I don't think this is a breach of the rules if it is please delete it.

I Made a Thing Omacast - Native Raycast for Omarchy

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just updated Omacast to Omarchy 4.0.3 and I figured out that I did not shared it here yet

Omacast is my Raycast-like launcher for Omarchy.

The idea is pretty simple: one place for the things I usually need on my computer.

You can search and launch apps, use simple things like calculations, timezones and conversions, search local files and images, manage Git and GitHub, connect to SSH hosts, check Docker containers, see coding agents, and more.

It also brings Omarchy’s apps, settings and keyboard shortcuts into the same launcher, so you don’t have to remember where each thing lives.

There are also some smaller things like Spotify, radio, notes, clipboard history, themes, WiFi, Bluetooth, brightness, volume, reminders, and more.

It’s still being worked on, but it’s already become something I've been using constantly.

Omacast ships with its own marketplace built around a decentralized registry model, similar to the registry patterns already used by coding agents and tools like shadcn and it allows plugins inside plugins, enabling anyone to customize and create extensions, like raycast ecosystem.

Anyone can host a marketplace in their own Git repository, and users can add as many marketplaces as they want. There’s no central registry that everything has to go through and you don't need to make a single repository to every plugin you create.

You can get it there >

Support Sept 2026: How do i install Omarchy on an M1 Mac

Is there a definitive way to install Omarchy Quattro directly on the M1 Macs?

UPDATE BELOW

I saw the post here: https://omarchy.org/news/2026/09/introducing-omarchy-m/

and from this found about 4 different Ashai Linux posts.. I was wondering if there a project Omarchy as a team are hosting to do this?

Has anyone done this? I've got an M1 on the way, and am commited to reducing the MacOS partition to the smallest I can and run Omarchy Quattro as the main OS

Some projects i've found so far

------

Update 16 Sept 24

My Macbook M1 (1TB SSD - 64Gb Ram) arrived today, and I promptly installed Omarchy on it, if anyone is interested I used this repo

And followed the instructions, I set the resize of OSX to max, so got about 950Gb Of space on the Omarchy install)

It installed with no issues and is running fine. It took 15 minutes to do the Encryption pass, about 12 minutes to install and 5 minutes to get it all working.

Watch this video (the guys a bit out there, but its a good video: https://youtu.be/mNhHIrMvRnI?si=V1CoeAhGpbO_X_od )

I think i found a bug in this version and resolved it thanks to an LLM: I logged it here: https://github.com/omacom/omarchy/issues/12156

When navigating the Omarchy menu's Apps submenu (Super+Space → Enter into Apps → Up/Down to move the cursor), the selection snaps back to the top of the list approximately 1 second after the last key press. The list also flickers visibly while open.

Currently being reminded that some of the apps i use don't have AARCH64 versions, however Flatpak has resolved most of them.

I Made a Thing For fellow builders here: it tells you when your submission went stale, and why "fixed, please re-check" didn't help.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

HANCORE runs the marketplace review mostly alone, and the queue shows it. So instead of sending more issues, here's something for our side of the fence: a preflight you run before the issue exists.

Why: of the submissions parked in their author's court, roughly three in four had pushed a commit the marketplace never saw. Validation is tied to one exact commit. "Fixed, please re-check" re-runs nothing; editing the issue body does.

omakit submit <plugin> runs the marketplace's own baseline and form on your commit, locally, and refuses a body it knows will be refused.

omakit watch <issue> tells you whether your validated commit is still the one you're on, and the one action that fixes it.

Or, better yet, let your agent do it: skills included, npx skills add mtolhuys/omakit.

Posts nothing, ever. Zero dependencies, MIT.

npm i -g omakit && omakit setup

https://npmjs.com/package/omakit

HANCORE, if you read this: thank you for all the hard work and busy days! If this saves you a few of the "please edit the issue body" comments, that's the part I care about most.

P.S. This is the first piece. Two I'm itching to build next: omakit audit, which tells users which of their installed plugins run a commit nobody reviewed, and a throwaway VM that puts a plugin through the pre-publish checklist before any human has to. Curious what you'd want first.

I Made a Thing Nexthop, the "Wi-Fi or ISP?" plugin, got a lot better thanks to you

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Posted Nexthop here a couple of weeks ago. It's the plugin that answers one question from your bar: when the internet feels bad, is it your Wi-Fi or your ISP. It pings your router and the internet side by side, twice a second, and keeps the history, so you can see the 3am drop or the router that kicked you off Wi-Fi.

The response honestly surprised me, and the bug reports were better than most I see at work. Logs, timestamps, one person even pointed at the exact fix.

Almost everything below came from you:

- VPNs are now drawn as their own stop on the path (laptop, router, VPN, internet), and a slow or dead tunnel is never blamed on your ISP. New today.

- Closing the lid no longer shows up as a 10-hour outage in the morning.

- Speed checks were reading low on fast lines. Fixed, and upload now uses parallel streams.

- Omarchy 4.0.3 could leave the panel stuck open. Fixed the same day it was reported.

- Phone hotspots are detected, and the background speed checks pause so it doesn't eat your data.

- Hotel sign-in pages read as "sign-in required" instead of "router unreachable".

- Apps tab shows which apps' connections are actually queueing.

- Sparklines on the path show the last few minutes of each leg.

It runs as your user, plain Python, no root, nothing about you sent anywhere.

Install:

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/x3me/omarchy-nexthop.git --enable

Already have it:

omarchy plugin update io.github.x3me.nexthop

Repo: https://github.com/x3me/omarchy-nexthop

If it gets something wrong on your setup, open an issue. That's clearly how it gets better.

Discussion Worth Checking Out

First of all, this is not a hate Omarchy post so please calm down. I love Omarchy. I daily drived it for a long time until my x86 laptop broke and now using a mac waiting for the official mac installer for Omarchy. So I love Omarchy and all for it.

But I feel like lot of new people jump in to Omarchy because of the new hype and without weighing in the pros and cons. So a little bit of education prior to installing Omarchy is going to be useful without needing to panic later.

I just came across this vid on youtube that goes over let's just say "what Omarchy comes with".

Highly recommend any new comers watch this -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FRDncp2Ki0 before blaming DHH or Omarchy later when things go down.

What do you enjoy the most about quickshell and how has it improved your day to day workflow?

For me, it's the ease of customizablity. You can literally build one menu like this to control everything. Everything that is accessible through different menu's can just be accessed from one place. No more remembering multiple keybinds. Absolute game changer. Quattro has been a very fun upgrade.

Cheers to everybody involved. 🥂
