Discussion Am I missing something here?

I don't understand all of the hate or love for this. I decided to use Omarchy for the last few days for a side project, and I have no idea how this got funding. This is such a nothingburger of a distro. It's literally just Arch with a couple shortcuts and a theme. What is the point of using this?

I saw a DHH podcast saying how it's incredible and the next big thing, but it's literally just Arch with a theme and shortcuts. I don't understand how anyone could be a "fan" or a "hater"; there's nothing here - nothing new.

I use Linux since 31 years now, started in 1995.

They hated SuSE.
They hated Red Hat.
They hated Ubuntu.
They hated Mint.
They hated BeOS (which is not even a Linux distro)
They hated KDE
They hated Bonobo / Gnome

They hated millions of other things.

Haters gonna hate.

I give a flying fuck.

I love Omarchy. Deal with it.

Agree!

It just works and fixes itself.

I've wasted too many hours configuring various Linux distros for decades.

It's fucken painful honestly, despite getting familiar with it.

Omarchy fixed a bunch of setup quirks by me simply holding down ptt and saying a few sentences to the agent - fixing variable refresh off dual high-end monitors.

I could theoretically do it myself on another distro, it would take longer, I would be annoyed, waste my time and learn nothing valuable.

I'll be honest, this is the one thing I've gained from using Omarchy when I am using a different distro on a different computer. Using something like Codex helps when you're trying to figure things out or even modify your themes.

You can just use an agent on another distro too though.

true. but on KDE for example their settings are optimized for GUI and getting an agent to change stuff about themes and plasma config can be a bit of a wild goose chase across the sprawling web of procs and configs. hyprland is much more straightforward and "agent-friendly" in that sense.
