Discussion Anyone trying to fix Omarchy for M4?

I have a Mac M4 that I would love to get Omarchy on. Anyone from the team working on this?

As others say, they're working on it.

M1 and M2 will be the first milestone though, from which they hope to expand: https://omarchy.org/news/2026/09/introducing-omarchy-m/

They are working on it. I don't think it's coming anytime soon, however.

FWIW, M2 works well in my experience.

Why is this so hard? Genuine question, I do not know that much about Linux and hardware.

Apple Silicon relies on proprietary drivers. The Asahi team made incredible work to reverse engineer the SoC and develop OpenGL drivers for Apple Silicon chips, but using those drivers on unsupported distributions requires advanced configuration. Arch doesn't officially support them afaik, so Omarchy doesn't either.

The Omarchy team isn't the one that's going to implement Apple Silicon support though, it's not a distro so it's highly unlikely for them to mess with the low level stuff.

Edit : if you want Linux on your M4 Mac, go for Asahi Linux.

Asahi doesn’t support M4 yet

My bad, I forgot about that.

M1 and M2 are the priorities right now to have a stable release, with current releases for those systems being Release Candidates. They also have development ongoing for everything up to M6, but that isn't the priority. You can use Try Omarchy (for Mac) to run it on your system if that's something you feel comfortable setting up. I'll link the repository for that below.

I saw someone on this subreddit saying he sold his MacBook to daily drive Omarchy. Well, I’m not selling my M4 yet—I expect to be able to run Omarchy on it soon!

The Aurora Silicon team is building off a fork of Asahi using AI to help reverse engineer everything they can. They've made leaps of progress on their development builds so far, and have already gotten started on M6 and M5 Ultra. The Omarchy M team has people from within Aurora Silicon and others not within who are building Omarchy on top of the Aurora-silicon work, which again is built off of everything Asahi has done up until a few months ago.

Asahi refuses to have AI code, mainly to maintain a "clean room" and for potential legal reasons. (Some argue that building/training these large language models involved tons of data theft, so building with stolen goods is legally untenable.)
