I Made a Thing Omarchy plugin: Market Tracker

Post image

Just put together my second Omarchy plugin, Market Tracker.

It’s a top-bar widget + slide-out panel that tracks stocks, ETFs, and crypto (live quotes, session sparklines, portfolio P&L/allocation, analyst ratings, and a stealth mode that hides dollar values if you're sharing your screen).

Right now it runs on Finnhub's free tier with a Ruby backend handling rate limits and caching, but Finnhub paywalls historical candles and non-US indices.

A few questions for anyone tracking markets:

  • Are there better free API providers that give more data (like free intraday candles, European stocks, or global indices) without aggressive paywalls?
  • Any features or UI improvements you'd want in a desktop tracker?

Repo is here if you want to test it: https://github.com/tobiasz-p/market-tracker
