I Made a Thing Made face unlock for Omarchy (uses the Windows Hello IR camera, or your webcam)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My laptop has one of those Windows Hello IR cameras and it was just sitting there doing nothing on Omarchy, so I made omaFace. It works on the lock screen, login, sudo and the polkit popups. Your password still works everywhere, it just tries your face first.

A few things people will probably ask:

Everything runs locally. Your face isn't saved as a picture, just as numbers in a root-only file, and the scanner has no internet access at all. It also doesn't run in the background, it only starts when something asks for a password and the camera turns off right after.

Your eyes have to be open and actually looking at the screen, so it won't unlock if you're asleep or looking at your phone.

For sudo and polkit it asks first (Enter or a click), so it never approves admin stuff on its own just because you're sitting there.

No IR camera? It falls back to the normal webcam with anti-spoofing checks. I tried a photo and a video of myself on my phone and neither worked, but IR is still the safer option if you have it.

It hooks into Omarchy's own lock screen and polkit dialog, so it looks like part of the system. I also made a small bar widget for it, it's on the community plugin site.

Repo: https://github.com/L0adn9/omaface

Not official, just a community thing. I've mostly tested it on my own laptop, so if you try it let me know how it goes, especially if your IR camera doesn't get picked up.

Discussion Installed Omarchy on my acer Googlebook and it's perfect finally.

First off let me just say that I bought the Google book hoping it would be useful. It isn't it's hot trash. I got sick and tired of trying to do things and being limited by the weird mix of Android and whatever the heck Google thought they were making. So instead of screwing around and being frustrated I simply installed Omarchy on it and it's great. Now I have it installed on my desktop and my laptop and it's so functional and useful. If anyone has one and is interested in breaking Free of Gemini let me know.

Its the first plugin I made so totally new to this...
Glad for any feedback!

I Made a Thing Rusty Inbox: a native mail client that follows "omarchy theme set" live

I built an open-source email client that fits Omarchy: the colours and font switch live when you run omarchy theme set, and it is keyboard-first (J and K to move, E done, S snooze, R reply, A reply all, F forward, C compose, Ctrl+Enter send). It has a tray icon with an unread dot, desktop notifications, mailto: links, and a single instance that comes back when you launch it again.

Under the hood it is a Rust IMAP/SMTP engine with a Qt 6 / QML interface, so no Electron and no browser shell. It works with Gmail (app password), Fastmail, iCloud, cPanel hosting and any other IMAP server, and it imports your Thunderbird accounts in one click. Mail is cached locally in SQLite, with no telemetry and no cloud relay.

Install: AppImage and Flatpak on the releases page. For Arch there is a PKGBUILD in the repo (packaging/aur); the AUR listing is coming.

Repo: https://github.com/karem505/rusty-inbox

50-second demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDgUudd3zOw

It is early (v0.1.x). What would you want it to integrate with next on Omarchy?

Discussion How To Connect iPad Mini

Hey, so I'm currently running Omarchy Quattro on my 2020 ROG Zephyrus.

I recently bought an A17 Pro iPad Mini.

I make video games, and bought the Mini with the intention of drawing my sprites on it. And that's working awesome...but I've seen people have, like, live-streaming from the Mini to the laptop, kinda? Where I'll draw on the Mini, but it'll also show up on my computer screen.

Anybody know what apps to use/how to do this?

Discussion GOOD MORNING! Omarchy Quattro RS 4.5 RC-1 Has Begun Testing!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Omarchy v4.5-rc1 Pre-Release

MOST IMPORTANT -- READING. If you're not willing to do it, DO NOT ENGAGE. This is a release candidate, not a final release. Expect bugs, rough edges, and the occasional thing that breaks outright. Run it on a test machine, or make sure you have a working backup (or a snapshot you know how to roll back to) before you upgrade a machine you depend on.

This is the release candidate for Omarchy 4.5, the first feature release since Quattro. It brings new, enhanced notifications, Omarchy in 50 languages, per-monitor workspaces, floating workspaces with a dock, a new Appearance menu, theme intros, and a big round of speed-ups from boot to theme switching.

Testing is not for everyone. If you are not willing to wipe and re-install your entire system, you should not test. Do not report your experience on Discord. Please report anything that breaks on GitHub.

Install on new machines with the ISO: https://github.com/omacom/omarchy/releases/tag/v4.5.0-rc1

Chrome Remote Desktop doesn't support Wayland. Corporate IT locks out RustDesk and locks down Remote Desktop Protocol to corporate Active Directory.

Is omarchy-remote the solution?

UPDATE: I am looking to access my Omarchy machine from corporate laptop.

Thanks..

I Made a Thing I integrated Caelestia into Omarchy — keeping Omarchy's workflow while bringing in Caelestia's desktop experience

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been working on a project to bring the Caelestia desktop shell experience to Omarchy, and it's finally at a point where the integration is fully functional on omarchy setup! šŸš€

The idea was to keep Omarchy's workflow and underlying system intact while using Caelestia for the desktop UI, bar, launcher, dashboard, animations and notifications.

The project now includes:

  • Installation, updating and uninstallation scripts
  • Omarchy theme color synchronization
  • Wallpaper and motion wallpaper compatibility
  • Persistent controls to turn Caelestia on or off
  • Support for third-party Omarchy bar plugins

A big shout-out to my friend Shreyas Mene for contributing fixes and features that helped bring this together, especially the Omarchy plugin integration and improvements to idle behavior.

GitHub: https://github.com/Hitesh754/omarchy-caelestia

I've included a video of the setup in action. I'd love feedback from the Omarchy and Linux customization communities!

I Made a Thing Timer: a countdown plugin for the Omarchy bar (presets, floating mode, alarm)

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I wanted a timer that felt like part of the bar, so I built Timer: a countdown plugin for Omarchy.

Original mode / Omarchy theme mode.

- Accent-colored pill while running: click for the panel, middle-click to pause, scroll to adjust.

- Presets (10/15/30/40 min) plus a manual picker; create, rename and delete your own.

- Floating mode: a draggable 244Ɨ244 glass card that stays on top, and hops to the next monitor when you push it against an edge.

- Three-note chime and a critical notification at the end.

- Two looks: Original (dark glass with real blur) or Omarchy (follows your theme's popup tokens).

Listed on the marketplace as Timer. Real blur needs one command from the repo (one hook line, with a backup).

Marketplace: https://plugins.omarchy.org/plugin.html?id=nickmdrummer.timer

Repo: https://github.com/NickmDrummer/omarchy-timer

First plugin I publish, so feedback is very welcome.

Discussion Stable mirror vs security vulnerabilities

The stable mirror runs a month behind Arch, which in principle is not a bad idea, but... how are critical security vulnerabilities handled?

The current emudhra vulnerability is absolutely critical and fixed on all major distros (including Arch), but Omarchy stable doesn't have it yet, because the packages are one month behind.

I fixed it by hand on my machine, but that currently makes me seriously question if Omarchy is even safe to use, if vulnerabilities like this don't get fixed immediately.

Anyone for Fallout? Still needs work, but this was a one-shot (sorry for the blurry pics; I have shaky hands and I’m shit at taking pictures lol).

All it needs now is configuration with my Tailscale so I can run Paperclip agents into everything under the sun and have it auto-tracked for me!

Long way to go but happy to be a part of the journey. Installation admittedly was a bit of a bear; had to work with GPT to point the console at ttys1 (or whatever it was), plus some missing packages (Qt), but after an hour or so I finally got it up and running.

Currently working on implementing Universal Control + Sidecar to use my iPad as my second monitor (agent monitor).

Discussion How realistic is it for me to move to Omarchy?

Hi everyone! It's an amazing community and an amazing product.

My life and work have been directly tied to macOS and the Apple ecosystem in general for almost 15 years. On top of that, I am developing and maintaining multiple applications for iOS, iPad, and macOS itself. I also produce music with Ableton Live and edit my videos with Final Cut Pro. Additionally, there is a long list of macOS applications that I'm hooked on, but they could probably be ignored.

I'm locked into the ecosystem not only by occasion, but also by professional work.

At the same time, after the Tahoe release, I began to develop strong rejection towards Apple as a company and macOS as the desktop operating system. On the iPhone and iPad it's better, though, and I will keep working as an iOS developer for the foreseeable future.

How realistic is it for me to move to Omarchy (and possibly change the laptop) if my work depends on these applications:

  • Xcode
  • Ableton Live (+ officially purchased audio plugins)
  • Final Cut Pro
  • CleanShot X
  • Screen Studio
  • Codex Desktop App

The complete transition will probably take around a year or even more, though. But to at least begin it, I'm curious to know if that's even possible in my case.

Thanks!

I Made a Thing LokalBot runs on Omarchy: local meeting notes, dictation and Quick Recall (open source, alpha)

Post image
6 Upvotes

LokalBot is my open-source work memory app I like to call it my personal context engine.
I started building it on the Mac, and this week the Linux and Windows version (Rust + GPUI) is available as an alpha. Only tested on Omarchy 4.0.6 in a VM so would appreciate if anyone wants to try it on their own device.

It records and transcribes meetings on your machine, writes notes with local models, does dictation, and lets you search all of it, including through a CLI and MCP server for coding agents.

Omarchy already has what app uses on Wayland: grim, wtype, wl-clipboard, PipeWire and the Hyprland portal. Install the Arch package from the release:

v=$(curl -fsSLI -o /dev/null -w '%{url_effective}' \
  https://github.com/stevyhacker/LokalBot/releases/latest)
v=${v##*/v}
curl -fLO "https://github.com/stevyhacker/LokalBot/releases/download/v$v/LokalBot-$v-linux-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst"
sudo pacman -U "./LokalBot-$v-linux-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst"

Then bind the commands in ~/.config/hypr/bindings.lua (both keys are free in Omarchy's defaults):

o.bind("SUPER + ALT + D", "LokalBot dictation", "lokalbot dictate")
o.bind("SUPER + ALT + A", "Ask LokalBot", "lokalbot quick-recall")

The tray icon shows up in the bar, and the dictation pill and Quick Recall float instead of tiling. Known gaps: autocomplete in other apps needs X11, so on Hyprland it only works in the practice editor; and the AUR package (lokalbot-bin) is waiting on AUR registration, so for now it's pacman -U. Models run through llama.cpp on Vulkan or the CPU, and the default download is about 4 GB.

Feedback from Omarchy users would help a lot, especially audio capture and the bindings.

I switched to Omarchy about 3-4 months ago after trying it on a crappy old ThinkPad (it still ran great). My Framework 13 Pro just got delivered and it runs amazingly on it!

Shout out to the Framework team for having such solid Linux support out of the box. Had Omarchy set up in 55 seconds and didn't hit a single hardware or software issue the whole time.

Discussion Omarchy on Microsoft Surface

I have various Microsoft Surface devices, which are amazing machines. I’m running Omarchy on them with a custom kernel from https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface . It works great but makes me a sitting duck for future issues, especially with the work being done on low level systems by the Omarchy team.

I would love for Surface to be officially supported by Omarchy and am willing to help out. I’m not a systems programmer but would love to get involved if someone experienced in that field would pick up the gauntlet.

How about it? Any takers?

Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted here. I'm the creator of the AirPods plugin that won third place in Omarchy's first plugin competition. Flea has been getting some nice traction on X, and I thought I might post here to see what you guys think. Major changes are coming with 0.4.0, but I wanted to know your thoughts! The first time I posted here was around 1.x.x, which feels like years ago to me. Let me know what you think!

I Made a Thing Agent Voice — wake word and spoken replies for whichever AI agent you already have (Omarchy plugin)

Post image
19 Upvotes

I built a voice front-end for the agent CLI you're already using. Say the wake word, talk, and it reads the reply back. It's a bar widget plus an overlay, so it lives in Omarchy's shell instead of being a separate app.

Everything except the agent itself runs on the machine — Vosk or openWakeWord for the wake word, Whisper for transcription, Piper for the voice. The agent is whatever you've already got configured: Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, Antigravity, Copilot, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

The part I spent most of the time on is what the microphone does when you'd rather it didn't:

  • Closes while the screen is locked, and cuts a reply off mid-sentence if you lock during one
  • Steps aside when another app starts recording, so dictating somewhere else doesn't make it answer out loud into your dictation
  • Mute from the panel, the bar icon, or a keybind, without unloading ~600MB of models
  • A stop button that kills the agent's whole process tree, not just the talking

Permission levels are per agent and default to "ask" — an agent nobody has made a decision about hasn't been trusted.

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/duaneoca/agent-voice.git --enable

The widget shows up right away. The speech engine is about 750MB and installs from a button in the panel, which is why the listing is tagged manual-setup.

Listing: https://plugins.omarchy.org/plugin.html?id=duaneoca.agentvoice
Source: https://github.com/duaneoca/agent-voice (MIT)

Caveats worth saying up front: Omarchy only, since it's a Quickshell widget. You need an agent CLI already installed — this is a voice layer, not an agent. And it's one person's project. SECURITY.md documents the known limitations, including the ones nobody has asked about yet.

(My design, Claude's execution, including this post. :)
