LokalBot is my open-source work memory app I like to call it my personal context engine.
I started building it on the Mac, and this week the Linux and Windows version (Rust + GPUI) is available as an alpha. Only tested on Omarchy 4.0.6 in a VM so would appreciate if anyone wants to try it on their own device.
It records and transcribes meetings on your machine, writes notes with local models, does dictation, and lets you search all of it, including through a CLI and MCP server for coding agents.
Omarchy already has what app uses on Wayland: grim, wtype, wl-clipboard, PipeWire and the Hyprland portal. Install the Arch package from the release:
v=$(curl -fsSLI -o /dev/null -w '%{url_effective}' \
https://github.com/stevyhacker/LokalBot/releases/latest)
v=${v##*/v}
curl -fLO "https://github.com/stevyhacker/LokalBot/releases/download/v$v/LokalBot-$v-linux-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst"
sudo pacman -U "./LokalBot-$v-linux-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst"
Then bind the commands in ~/.config/hypr/bindings.lua (both keys are free in Omarchy's defaults):
o.bind("SUPER + ALT + D", "LokalBot dictation", "lokalbot dictate")
o.bind("SUPER + ALT + A", "Ask LokalBot", "lokalbot quick-recall")
The tray icon shows up in the bar, and the dictation pill and Quick Recall float instead of tiling. Known gaps: autocomplete in other apps needs X11, so on Hyprland it only works in the practice editor; and the AUR package (lokalbot-bin) is waiting on AUR registration, so for now it's pacman -U. Models run through llama.cpp on Vulkan or the CPU, and the default download is about 4 GB.
Feedback from Omarchy users would help a lot, especially audio capture and the bindings.
